Do you cover or not while storing?

It's raining HARD every afternoon here in the Northeast and has me wondering what to do with the HTT this fall after winterizing. Looking at some of the newer covers in Camping World and local dealer showroom they seem to be a better solution than the old BLUE tarp. I covered my old Coleman Cheyenne back in 96 and opened up a huge mess that spring. Has anyone tried the new tyvek style covers?

Cover. We not only store our new TT, and previously our HTT, under cover 24/7, we use the Adco cover recommended for our area after winterizing. Yes, it's probably overkill, but it's a big investment and we want it to last as long as possible and look new as long as possible. Blue tarps are a mistake for 2 reasons....1 - they don't breathe and you end up with the mold/mildew issue. 2 - they're abrasive and can/do leave blue scuffs on the exterior finish. If you watch for CW to have their annual fall cover sale, the prices are not bad and usually include tire covers at N/C. If you need to get into your camper during the time it's covered, no problem....there are zippers stragecially placed to let you get in and out without removing the cover. Our Adco, which we bought in the fall of '06 went along with our ROO to its new family and we had only a couple of minor patches on it. It should last a good many more years. BTW, read the instructions before you start trying to put it on your camper....makes life a lot more pleasant. It's not a hard job, just bulky and awkward the first time to two.

blue tarps, left contacting the roof, will cause mold/mildew since they don't breathe.

we also have a ADCO cover for our Roo. only use it when we store it away from home. works great and the trailer is super clean when it's removed.

Have had three TT's over the years. None ever covered, and we live in Colorado high country. All three sold for over book. See no reason for covers.

DO NOT use blue tarps, they do not breath, and so cause a real mess.

I'm on my 2nd cover, get the better quality one. Getting it to not billow in the wind is essential to have them last at all. I also tip the trailer towards the rear for better run off and carefully take the snow rake to it if it gets deep. It also helps if you can somehow soften the sharp spots, I used carpet strips, works well but is a hassle the first time and adds a good deal to the time it take to cover it.

any cover is better than none myour roof won,t leak under a cover and the sun won,t eat up the rubber. but you gotta let it breath.

Next year will be my 6th with Adco Tyvek. I've been very happy with it.

I used to cover our campers all the time. Then I realized that every three to four years, I was replacing the cover due to tears from the wind. This can get expensive. Now, I just clean the roof and wax the camper in the Fall and Spring.
As stated, campers sit in the sun and rain all summer so some snow on it during the winter doesn't bother me. I do keep a very diligent eye on the caulking and fix immediately upon seeing cracks.

We store ours under a call port. November thru March. The remainder of the year it is loaded and ready. We keep the side jalousie window open and do not cover it. Rain is not the enemy, watch for fallen tree limbs, and damaged caulk.

If you want a cover get one that is breathable like Sunbrella. As stated above, not covering your trailer works okay,after all,
they are built to be outdoors in the weather. If you can store the trailer under roof, like a carport, and let the air circulate around it would be excellent. Also, add roof vent covers and then open the roof vents part way to allow for the inside air to circulate.

I used to cover our old PUP the first few years we had it. Then a storm tore it up. I never bothered to replace it. We had our last HTT (Jayco Kiwi 17A) for 10 years and never covered it. I did cover the tires and the A/C unit. Kept it waxed and the roof clean and aside from some fading on the front bed door it looked great when we traded it in. I do not plan to cover our new HTT either.

Do not use a blue tarp. They cause more problems then they help.

I cover our 96 Southwind every winter. I've had no problems with mold or the cover rubbing the paint and, we get a lot of winter wind on our area.
There are different opinions on covers for RV's. Use the search feature on the forum, you will get a lot of reading.
When this one wears out, I'll buy another cover. JMO
