Email from Camping World

Is it just a coincidence that I happen to be looking on the web for the proper way to clean and maintain the roof on my TT when a couple days later I get an email with a "price drop alert", and low and behold rubber roof cleaner price had dropped? I know if you don't have your settings right, every time you look up some widget on the net you see the ad for that widget on every page you look at for months. Are they able to track you and email you ad's now?

Same place and gimmick we encountered??

We dropped into a CW store recently only because we happened to be driving right by. Thought we'd check out what's new and exciting on the shelves (nothing). Faster than we could step into the store, a guy runs over and asks us to fill out a draw for a free gift (can't remember what). Not being our first rodeo, we fill it out but put only our phone no. on it and decline to give them our names or other info. Never anything wrong with winning a "free" gift.

Couple weeks later we get a phone call from someone telling us we won a couple nights free camping in a local CG and a gift card for $50 gas or restaurant meal. Well... We've been down this road before with the same CG org. You have to go to a "presentation" and buy a membership (thousands of $$) to get the "free" gift. The two free nights camping is during the week only, not on holidays and not in the high season. Next to useless. (Their presentations make used car salespeople seem like REALLY nice folks.) I politely tell the lady we used to be members and aren't interested because of all the trouble we had in the past. She says "may I ask why?" I said we explained all the issues to management, nothing ever changed and that we sold out and would never go back. Then I hung the phone up. Click!

Too bad I can't post a few expletives here to describe what I think of this sort of thing. Pretty scummy to say the least.

Creepy? How about downright frightening?

Just got automated robotic message with a female voice on my iphone minutes ago saying verbatim: "An arrest warrant against you. And your physical property are under investigation. So call me back to get more information about your case. Call our toll free number 647-***-****. I repeat 647-***-****. Thank you."

Oh geez, I hope they're not gonna seize our TT! Noooo. Anything but... 😞

BTW, doesn't a toll free number start with "1"? Those dirty rotten bast*rds. I'm not going to pay for the flippin' call!! And how did they find me anyway? Help, I'm home alone today and scared. :E

You are now a national security risk to us ‘Murcans. To get back in good graces, you must purchase an Airstream.

We have friends who have one of those Alexa things in their kitchen. The wife was talking to a friend about an upcoming trip to Alaska to visit their son. Finding lodging is a challenge in this small town. The next day she found ads for "local" hotels in the Alaskan city they were going to visit. Big Brother indeed.

AOL has you by your Short And Curlies now also. Everything you enter in email or search is tracked and they bombard you with ads. I hate this c r a p and may get rid of my computers. I need my email for our flying group to set up airshows and I am a parts man for aircraft. Now I get bombarded with boat part, car part and truck part ads. Get a call every day about fixing my credit and I only use 1 card and pay it off every month. Going back to my flip phone real soon. I get snail mail addressed to my aol account too.

I'm betting you stay logged on to either your ISP or Google - especially Google. Log off all search providers when searching so your searches are not tracked.

I like to do random searches for things like "mail order brides" or "how to cook a spotted owl" just to keep the ads interesting

All the more reason to double check your spelling when doing an internet search. A fisherman searching "best place for tarpons" will not want to mistakenly type an "M" in place of the "R" in tarpon. Their device would be forever compromised.

I stopped most of this nonsense by not using the Google. Instead, I search with The Duck. I also use one of the temp email services when I don’t want to give out my regular address.

As fultimers and volunteers we spend several months at time in various states. We spent last summer in Colorado. Lately been getting my facebook filled with political ads from Colorado. We haven't been there since we left last September. Seems like someone is paying for old data.

I wouldn't worry about it until you get ads for shower soaps and toilet paper . :E
