So are you saying the Dodge RAM trucks were better in '92? I remember having to move those Dodge RAM trucks around on the dealer lot back in '88 and it took a couple of minutes for the lifters to stop ticking after a cold start. Those 318's were some real pieces of work I might say!

In addition moving the Chevy's and GMC's didn't have the lifter ticking issue like the Dodges. :h

I don't remember those roller cam/lifters making much noise in those 318's. In fact, most Mopar valve trains were fairly quiet when new. Not only were they rollered during that year, but they also still maintained the shaft mount rocker setup. If my memory serves me correctly, pretty quiet. I still have a half dozen or so LA small blocks and race with them during the summer months. Even the high mileage ones are pretty quiet.

These were brand new Dodge trucks sitting on a grass lot that I would move ~ 1/week in order to mow that lot. Every Dodge truck would litterly tick for a couple of minutes during the cold start. This was during the summer months in Texas.

Also I do recall Chevy had a batch of bad cams in '82 that would go flat a cause poor performance.

back in the day we changed camshafts in chevys like you change your socks....never a cam in a mopar though. That 318 started as a 273 to 318 to 340 ( a monster motor) and finally a 360...a hell of a run.

Tory please tell me you don't think a Quadra-Jet is better then a Carter AFB? I rebuilt far more Q-jets then AFB's in the day! Lets not even talk about Holley carbs! I could rebuild a Holley in my sleep! There was always a rebuild kit for the 2 barrel in my garage.

Have to say the Q-Jet sounded the best, if you flipped the air clear lid up side down! You did have to unscrew the bolt to get the wing nut back on though.

For a street carb, the only one that will match a Q-jet is a ThermoQuad.

Funny thing about that 5.2 Magnum (318) in my 92 Dodge Dakota, it would spank those 5.0/302 Tangs all day long.

BTW it never had any lifter noise and never heard anyone complain about the 5.2/318 but it's your story Tory.

My '71 Chevelle would spank any Mustang or any Chrysler product with those Carter carbs.

No big deal! :C

I think not.

Don,
I would take a Quadra Jet carb or a Holley carb any day of the week over a Carter. You can add Autolite to the list right next to Carter. :W

We bought an '04 Ford diesel F-250 in Dec. '03. We live about 2 miles from the dealer and racked up over 20 trips for service. The first big one (6000 miles)was for them to pull the engine and replace seals. Then the turbo blew, more oil leaks (over 12), and bad running. Finally, I sort of had a melt down at the dealership (people left and probably thought I was a really crazy person), where I found a guy in a fancy shirt & tie and exploded on him. They kept the truck for over a week and it was a new truck..... I don't know what they did, but it was very good.

Then we sadly crashed the thing after a few thousand miles on the fix. By the way, we smashed the truck into a ball of junk, but walked out with a scratch on each of us. Bad engine, good truck to crash in! I doubt I'll get anything, but will check into this. Thanks......

If you crashed the truck "a few thousand miles on the fix" how do you know it was fixed? Just asking.

My truck didn't have a single problem until 141,000 miles. Then the EGR cooler failed. Since I went over 135,000 miles without a warranty claim, I get bupkis.

But I am not really that upset, I replaced all of the problematic parts with improved aftermarket solutions and the truck runs great and is reliable to this day, and the repairs were much cheaper than a new truck payment. Another plus, my 2005 F-250 doesn't need DEF.

Well, cr*p. Ford replaced my EGR cooler/oil cooler under warranty, but they hit me over $1100 for the FICM after the warranty expired. Apparently the FICM wasn't part of this CA suit.

Already spent my $62.50 settlement 2 weeks ago from the EMachines computer disk drive CA suit. And the $20-something bucks on the Toro mower CA suit. Didn't even know I was part of either of those suits until they sent me a post card explaining how to file a claim.

I had a 318 in an '85 pickup and never had any lifter noise.
Also never had any problems with it. Got rid of the truck with 377,000 trouble free (motor) miles.
