I have to believe that the 10 speed will soon find its way behind the 6.6 gas motor. It seems to baffle the entire automotive industry as to why they didnt release it with the 10 to begin with. At least with Ram, I dont think they yet have a 10 speed. GM has them sitting on the shelf and yet they continue with the 6 speed.

Rams doing the same game with the "old" transmissions behind their diesels too.
I surmise that it's more about future sales than current capability. If one is in a pattern of increasing market share (like ram, idk about GM gassers) or already has a big marketing point for the year "The new 6.6 Duragas!!", then why show all your cards up front, when next year or the year after you can have another big marketing release. "Now with the new Turbo Hydramatic TH1000 transmission!!"

My thoughts as well. Thereโ€™s really no reason not to not use the new 10 speed, unless they want to get rid of some excess 6 speed autos hanging on the benches. Hopefully the new 10 speed series will make up for the 3:73 gear set. Still wish they would have used the 4:10. I have the 6.0 with the 3:73 gear set and 6 speed. Love it, pulls 10k very well. Iโ€™m sure the new 10 speed with the 6.6 would be a nice pull dog though.

No experience here, gonna keep the 6.2 Ford.

I keep wondering about the gas consumption on these new mountain motors.

^ Yeah, not sure how many of them are out in the wild yet.
Power numbers are a decent bump, right in the hunt between the Ram and the Ford.
6 speed will be the Achilles heel for how it stacks up against the competition.
Similar poor decision there like Ram still running a 6 er behind the diesel.
Guess if they're still selling enough trucks, no need to upgrade their offerings just yet.

Side note, I thought the 7.3 Ford was supposed to blow the doors off the other 2 in power numbers? Maybe Ford's sandbagging for an upcoming 1 up the competition, competition?

The Hemi with the 8spd is reported to be great. Even the smaller 8.4 NAV beats the GM one. Chris

For whatever it's worth, Motor Trend had some pretty negative comments about it and the 6 speed trans in the truck of the year testing in the latest issue.

Iโ€™ve been looking for info too, and Iโ€™ve seen a couple of videos from the press event in Oregon that testers made some comments about the trans.

I test drove a Chevy and Ram gasser back to back, and the Ram 8spd shifted much better than the Chevy. The Chevy when I turned and started up a hill was turning like 1200 rpm, and tried to stay in that gear and bog. It eventually downshifted to over 2500rpm.

I really want to stay with Chevy since my current one has been great for 17 years and 238k miles, but after the test drive the only reason Iโ€™m still considering Chevy is how good my old one has been.

Just traded an 07 2500HD Chevy with a 130,000 miles for a 2019. Did not want to be one of the first to try out the new 6.6 engine. Been there done that with new design products. Purchased the good old 6.0 gasser and will see if I made the wrong choice or not down the road....so to speak. Hope everyone has/had a nice holiday.

The 6.6 is a bulked up 6.2 with an iron block, so not entirely new.

Thanks 0621, I watched their test also but was hoping that a few fellow RVers had towed with this engine in a 2500 or 3500 and had any feelings about the combo engine and transmission.
