Good Deal or Walk? 2007 GMC 3500 dually

While I've been looking at Ram 2500/3500, a different truck hit my radar. 2007 GMC Sierra Classic SLE dually, 6.6L Duramax and Allison 4spd auto. CarFax one owner truck, with 276K miles. No open recalls/no accidents reported. Dealer asking $17999.

What should I be looking for with this truck? It appears to have been very well maintained cosmetically, and it's almost identical on the interior to my 2003 Tahoe LT.

You Duramax/Allison guys -- what say you?

It depends, if it is an 07 Classic it is an LBZ, if not it would be an LMM (new body style GMT900). I have an 06 LBZ and an 08 LMM and both are very solid. The LMM has yet to miss a day of work with a 130K on it for any reason. The LMM is a little harder on fuel, the DPF in the truck to this point anyway has been a nonissue however and it spends a lot of time driving in town.


OP here...the truck in question is a LBZ. One owner, regularly maintained.

OP,
Stay away from any diesel truck that is equipped with a DPF and doesn't have a DEF system.

Another thing is that truck probably has about the same payload as a post 2011 srw chevy 3500 gas or diesel.

There really isn't much to watch for with that truck. '06 and '07 classic were darn near perfect and highly sought after. That's just a lot of miles. Really any Duramax since the '04.5 LB7 is a solid truck. The '04.5 -'05 LLY don't cool very well but are otherwise very reliable.

Look for whoever took the other 2 gears. It's a 6 speed.
Given your knowledge or lack thereof of vehicles, specifically, stay away from buying trucks with almost 300k miles on them. May sound snarky but a vehicle like that will cost you several times more to keep on the road than someone who can wrench on their own gear and is knowledgeable about it.

Thanks for the feedback. While I was hopefully optimistic, the realist in me said it was too much.

So, what are things to look for specifically with the Duramax/Allison combination?

That's a 10-12k dollar truck with those miles where I live.
2011 ram 3500. Cummins 68rfe. EFI live. 276k miles and climbing.

I would not consider that vehicle. As already posted, most of that vehicle is reaching end of life.
