GVWR; how close are you?

I guess there is no way to post a poll on this forum. But with several threads discussing ways to increase the carrying capacity of trucks used to haul slide in campers I got to wondering how everyone fits with regards to weight.

While I'm under the front and rear GAWR of my truck, I'm slightly over the GVWR.

How about you?

With my lance 830 am over gvw by about 15.5%. Changed tires to handle the weight. Truck runs and stops fine. Just drive it defensively.

Licensed GVW on his door said "22,000 kg"

The 22000 GVW in this case is his declared total "truck and trailer" operating weight which is over 48000 lbs. Some hotshots declare a much higher operating weight but haul at a lower number. That way they have wiggle room. However at some point declaring all that weight gets expensive unless its a company truck. (deep pockets)

A GMC dually could be a one ton DRW pickup bed or flatbed or a 4500/5500 with a haulers bed.

Sorry I should have mentioned it was a pickup bed.

I decided to take care of the "overweight" problem with my 2012 2500 4X4 Ram. I went into the dealership to look for an accessory and while there I asked one of the salesmen if they had any 3500 SRW. They had one, a 2013 3500 4X4 Longhorn. We crunched some numbers, then I made them recrunch the numbers. Ok we are close, crunch them again. Finally we made a deal I was happy with and I now own a one ton. With my camper, I wasn't that much over but since I will be pulling either 2 motorcycles on a trailer or 2 three person PWCs, I wanted the extra capacity. Moved the Roadmaster sway bar and Timbren bump stops over to the new truck. Now I'm just waiting for my Torklift frame mount tie downs to come in so I can get them installed. I'm a happy camper now...

Rather than removing the jacks, I saw in another thread that some people remove the rear seats (if you have a 4 door of course). A pretty fast way to loose some weight and make more carry space. Of course this won't work if someone needs to ride back there>>>LOL.

Only going to save a couple hundred pounds anyway.

I dunno about terrible... Lots of people do it near as I can tell. I see many campers on the road without Jacks attached, know quite a few people on this forum does it too, and have done it myself a few times also.

It is quite a bit of weight depending on the jacks you have. "A couple hundred pounds" is quite a lot to those of us with smaller trucks. And when going off road those big sticks sticking out are just asking to be ripped off, hell even in a parking lot, or close quarters residential area, and cause more damage to your camper.

So terrible? not even remotely... Just depends on your individual usage case.

Does anyone else travel without the truck camper jacks? We don't ever lower them while camping and don't plan on taking the tc off the truck. Would this be a crazy way to lower the total weight?
