Just curious. I'm replacing mine, and just wondering how much clearance some of you have when loaded, or what the going opinion of the ideal clearance is.

I lost count the number of times I ripped off one those rubber flapper style on a curb when backing over it. I put on the Husky molded style and now have about 4 to 5 inches clearance loaded and don't have a problem backing over curbs now.Husky

With mud flaps directly behind the tire, you can't go all of the way to the ground. The reason for this is that you can pinch them between the tire and the ground/curb when backing. They will then rip out the mounting bars, which can tear a hole in the sheet metal of your truck. I learned the hard way.

If the flaps were far enough back they could go all of the way down.
