How many Amerigo truck campers are there left?

I know the Amerigo owners are aware of other Amerigo truck campers in thier area.
I was just wondering as to the actual number of these campers left around.
If you know of any in your area could you post how many and what part of the country they are in. Sitting in a back yard counts!

I know of 3 others in my home town, and there are 2 others on the beach where I camp on Cape Cod.

That would be 6 for the Southeastern Massachusetts area.

Thanks

I just bought a 1973 Amerigo 11.6 truck camper out of a hunting camp in york county sc. The outside is in good shape but the interior will need quite a bit of work. Roof has been replaced but where the refridgerator was there are open vents letting in the elements and for what ever reason the owner before him cut the electrical, water and gas lines. I will need to replumb replace frame on passenger side and wall and insulation. hopefully I can turn it into a nice camper again so I can show my kids more of the country.

My husband and I talked about that last night, and you're right. Add the 2000+ horse trailer + 2000 for two horses +water tank +hay +tack = far too much weight.

I am deeply bummed that I won't be getting the Amerigo! But I need to consider my truck and my horses.

Thank you again for your help. Btw, that means this 1971 Amerigo camper in pristine condition IS STILL AVAILABLE for someone willing to go to Long Island to get it. !!!

Bye, all, it's been fun hanging out with you ๐Ÿ™‚

hmmm... Not sure of the answer but you realize that the Amerigo hangs off the back approx. 4 feet, so a hitch extender would be necessary. BUT you also need to take in account the weight of the camper, which is close to 3000 lbs dry, PLUS the weight of towing the trailer. I am not sure if your 350 dually is rated for all that. For example I have a 1999 Ford 350 (dually) Triton V 10 gasser. Other than carrying the Amerigo, for work hubby sometimes carries upwards of 5000 lbs of steel. Not sure how I would feel carrying 3000 lbs and then towing another trailer with additional weight.

HUGE QUESTION, then I'll stop bugging everyone here. This will be a deal breaker. With my 2003 F350 dually (diesel) and the 11' Amerigo camper, can I still pull a horse trailer? What do I need to do to make that happen?
Thank you all so much. You've all been very helpful.

HOLD UP A SEC... I just looked at the picture on craigslist. It looks to me (kinda hard to see) that the Amerigo already had "newer" corner jacks added? If that is the case you need to contact the seller and find out what kind of jacks were added and if "swing outs" could be added (to accommodate the dually fenders) I never saw an Amerigo with corner jacks before. Anyone else offer opinion on this? I have the Old school style jacks.

I talked to the owner today, and he said he has the front jacks. He had them modified for his 2005 F350 dually. All I need now to pick up the camper is a tie-down strap for the front of the truck bed; he said he has the ones for the back. I'm clueless about this, can anyone give me some advice? I want to be safe and secure, but I don't want to overspend.

As far as water damage goes, for a 40 plus old Truck Camper, the damage (in my opinion) is expected and or acceptable. Most campers built today couldn't even make it to 20 years old. I wouldn't give up my Amerigo for anything. That is how much I love it.

Eeegads, I didn't know they were so prone to water damage, now I'm praying for no (or minimal) rot.
The owners just got home from vacation, so I'll call first thing in the morning and ask about the front jacks.
Thank you! I sure appreciate your advice and suggestions and support!

Good day !
If it is the one listed for $2900 it looks as if it is ready to go
I know i would not let mine go for $ 2900 .

Now that mine is done.... I wouldn't let it go for under $20,000 but in actuality I just wouldn't let it go. I think I have about $10,000 into her, which is pretty cheap for a "new" Truck Camper.

Let me see if I can send the pic from this computer. (if not I will have to go to my husbands shop later)

The problem is these old campers were never made for the dually fender width and because these are old school lifts that literally lift from the bottom, you can not add newer jacks to the corner that would actually swing open to accommodate the dually fender. The fix (for us) was to fabricate a huge "steel plate" that extends further out (away from the camper) The old jack is then bolted back onto this "extender" Your jacks end of riding about 3-4 inches further out on each side, but you are still within the allowable width which is 8 1/2 feet.

Please know that when you take off the front jacks, there is a high likelihood that the wood it is attached to is "rotted" This is especially true with the front passenger side which sits right next, underneath the fridge. The fridge vent on these Amerigos are known for leakage. The water runs right down around the fridge and hits that corner...right where the jacks are bolted in. I am in no way trying to scare you. My entire Amerigo was "rot", BUT I knew that going in and that I was going to complete an entire re-build. We removed 90% of the the entire frame before rebuilding 100% of the inside and outside. Once we put the jacks back on, we put a piece of 1-2 inch plywood to secure the jacks for the 18 hour drive back home.

These campers are awesome once renovated. Mine is custom for a fraction of the price of a new one. Let me find the pic... In the meantime check out my re-build blog at sixszekely.wordpress.com

Thank you! Photos would sure help. I guess the measurements, too, actually, if it's not too much trouble. How much do you think it will cost? I'm buying it from an individual, not a dealer. NUTS, how am I going to get it home? It's a five hour drive each way. Ah, this is not as joyful an experience as I'd hoped.

Would someone please look at this and tell me if this is a fair price? I would appreciate it very much.
