I have a 2002 Silverado 2500HD, duramax, allison. Is 1615lbs. to much pin weight for this truck? I am considering a new 5th wheel and was concerned about this.

GM gives their 2500 trucks a 6200 RAWR.
The '02 2500 can weigh in the 2800 lb range which leaves you with around 3200 lbs for a payload
RAWR can be the lessor of tires/wheels/rear spring pack. Never exceed a drive or steer axle/tire load ratings and you will fine.

9200 GVWR minus your scaled weight equals?
My 2005 ext cab 4X4 ready to go scaled right at 7500 pounds, leaving me a scant 1700 pounds for pin weight.
Limiting factors will be weak/soft springs, low rated wheels and of course the 6084 max weight limit on the stock size tires.

I weighed my truck full of fuel with me, my wife, and two kids without the camper and only had 3,300 lbs on the rear axle. So that leaves almost 2,800 lbs before I hit my max.

Without loading your truck full of fuel, pass, gear, hitch, and weighing it, this gives a good example using similar truck.

If you are looking at new FW brochure pin wts, they can be higher than listed, and certainly higher loaded to camp.

Best to weigh yours to see what is left before going over RAWR/max tire load.

Hi.

Look on 5th wheel label plate. Then look at tow vehicle weights. Most likely somewhere 1,200 to 2,200 depending on length of 5th wheel. Mind is 1,650 for a 31fT. Double slide.
