The instrument cluster on this truck is acting strange. Odometer reading is blank, tach is showing less rpm than it should. Is there a fix you know of short of taking it to the dealer for an expensive fix?

I bought new stepper motors for mine off of ebay and followed a YouTube video for the de-solder/re-solder procedure. Not too difficult if you have done a fair amount of soldering over the years. Just be careful not to knock any of the little light connections loose when you handle the instrument panel during the procedure. I knocked one loose and had to re-solder it as well.??

I had mine done by a local outfit in an area up here called maple ridge 150.00cdn, they will do by mail, but I drove it over and picked up a day or two later, all new steppers and lighting

My 2004 Silverado did this a couple years after i bought it. Removed it and sent it out to a repair place (don't remember the name anymore). They installed all new gauges and sent it back to me. I reinstalled it and a month later started doing the same thing!
I removed it, gave it to my son who is in electronics. He resoldered the edge connector pins where the harness plugs onto the board--problem fixed!
So if you want to repair it yourself you might look there.

I know GM had issues with stepper motors in their dash clusters that cause the gauges to stick or not read correctly. The odometer issue is most likely a bad solder joint. You can source a cluster from a salvage yard but may run into the same issue...it's a gamble with used electronics. There are many companies that do repair/return of your cluster and offer instructions on how to remove your cluster. Those cluster services are much cheaper than a trip to a dealer.

Known issue with trucks of that vintage. You are most likely looking at an exchange cluster (or one from a wrecker's yard).
