Is 27' too long?

We are considering down-sizing from a 32' fifth-wheel to a smaller bumper pull trailer. We'd still like a trailer large enough for longer trips (3-5 weeks) but, small enough to allow us to get into some smaller camping areas. 27'(bumper to hitch) seems to be a popular size. My question is for those of you with this size trailer; does the trailer length cause any access problems for you?

I can't see anything smaller than the 34' we have now with the family. Some days it rains and when you get trapped inside, the extra room really makes it nice. We haven't had any trouble getting in where we want to go, but if you get too far off the beaten path, mine's definately a little too big. It's all in what you want.

Why do you want to downsize?
With our rig when my wife `goes to her room' she still is only 10 feet away!

I'm guessing height is the problem.

26-1/2' ball to bumper for us.

You really need to look at floorplans and how much storage is available, DW liked the storage and bathroom layout in the NT we ended up with. A lot of cg's we go to from our pop-up days max out at 30'.

We've done a week of camping with just the 2 of us. But we really don't spend a lot of time in the TT, we use it as a "base camp" and are gone a lot of the time.

There are a lot of floorplans in the 30' range if you want to stretch yourself out. But then again, overall length will be close to what you have now.

27' is just about right, depending what you want to do. If you're downsizing, adjusting to anything much smaller will be tough (ask me how I know!) If your heart is set on dry camping in the national parks, you may want to look into something more like 22-23'. A lot of those sites max out about 24'.

I down sized from a 35ft fifth wheel to a 30ft/tongue to bumper trailer. In my opinion 30ft is max to get into the areas I go. So far, I've got it everywhere I wanted to camp.

I had some issues with the big fifth wheel getting it into the places I wanted to be and getting it out.
