Is a 13,000 BTU AC enough for a 22' trailer?

We are considering a Flagstaff Micro Lite 21ds. The standard AC is 13,000 btu? Is that adequate or should we upgrade to the 15,000 unit?

Thanks,
Dennis

We had a 25โ€™ TT with a slide and 13.5K AC. Even in 100 degree days, no problems.

As was said the 13.5 will be OK, but given the option I would go bigger. It will cool off faster and maintain temp better.

It should work out fine assuming it's a quality AC that is functioning properly.

The 13 may work but you will be happier with the 15.

I had a 23.5 x 7.5ft trailer with 13.5 non-ducted and it was okay but noisy. I don't know how the models you have to choose from would compare in noise. However the most important factor may be whether you have a generator that could run one but not the other.

I also think the 13.5K BTU unit will work, but if I had the option of 15K, I'd be all over it.

I think you will be fine once it cools down, but getting it cool could take a while, especially in the hot and humid south.

We had a 13.5 in a 32ft trailer and it was always good except in the direct sun. I would think youโ€™ll be ok with your 22 footer!

our previous TT was a 33ft 13.5 btu. it worked fine in the southeast summers... it took awhile to cool down when temps get in 90's but i learned to open bathroom vent and open rear window on the road to circulate air. that helped some. current TT is 37ft with 1 15k btu.

One advantage, it will do the initial cool down quicker.

A 15,000 is only 10% more cooling, but sometimes 10% helps. A little more airflow too.

We stay in FL and SC quite often. The 13.5K unit does well for us in a 21โ€™ box. Most of the time it is only run at night.

26' Heartland, 95 degrees, and the 13.5KBTU A/C handled it. But it really worked hard.

13500 is fine for that size. As colliehauler brought up if you oversize you don't get enough runtime for humidity control which is a big part of feeling comfortable. You will feel cooler at 75 degrees and 30 percent humidity than you will at 70 degrees and 60 percent humidity.

Thanks for the replies. Our last unit was a 36' trailer with dual AC units and 50 amp service. On really hot days we would use both units for the hottest part of the day. We do like to keep it cool, especially to sleep. I was hoping that a 22' unit could get by with a 13k unit.

Thanks,
Dennis
