loud "pop" out of TT axles

On friday afternoon i was backing my TT into my parents driveway which is kind of steep and i was taking a pretty good angle at it, but when backing in I could kind of feel one of the tires binding and then a "pop" sound....i can almost compare it to what it sounds like when a detroit locker unloads under a lot of pressure...is this supposed to happen? to release the pressure on one side to allow the other side to turn? thanks for any help~Chris

I grease shackles, springs and most of in between before every trip and it greatly reduces noise from trailer. I thought it was the hitch and ball at first.

I could (and do!) put up with a lot of creaky noises before I'd be greasing my suspension before every trip! :E It's enough that I'm supposed to clean and re-grease my Equal-i-zer (I rarely do...), no way am I doing that. :B

What's a split axle?

Some people call them split axles or spread axles.. Axles that are further apart then others.. Inside tire tread are around 18" apart

I can only get mine to quit making terrible squeaking noises if I oil the equalizer bolts often. I wish they would have put grease zerks on places like that. I sometimes wonder how much wear the bolts in the equalizer have after all these years of moving dry.

You would be surprised! Take a look at this thread for some pictures of those bolts and bushings.:E

That's about what I would expect if I were to take mine apart if not even worse. The stupid axel manufactures should have made it right in the first place like the kit was installed in that thread. If I were going long distances I would install that.

mine used to pop all the time. Then I put on the Dexter EZ-flex and heavy duty grease-able shackles. Now it's quiet and flexes better.

It's the spring equizer, that's the part between the 2 axles that the springs ride in. totally normal Bobby

More distance between the wheels on each side - larger gap between tire treads.

The wheels are independent. The tub is just structural/hollow. No axle shafts.

Are there zerk fittings for all the grease spots?
