Low Forum Activity?

I'm noticing since coming back to the forum recently that overall activity level on all of RV.net is very low. Even on Tow Vehicles, Around The Campfire and Fifth Wheels, all that used to be very busy forums, are now practically dead.

Use to be, a post could be made one day, and by the next day, if nobody replied to it, it would be buried 4 or 5 pages back on a busy forum like Tow Vehicles and Around the Campfire. Even Truck Campers it would be back on page 2 or 3 by the next day.

Have alot of folks left the forum in the past year or two? I still see alot of the same regulars I used to see, but notice some are also missing so far and I dont see a lot of newby posts as I used to see.

STFU nitwits

I am not sure the nitwits know who they are, but they have been properly warned. The only problem that I see is that if the nitwits are eliminated, there will really be a slowdown in the number of postings, which is what started this thread.

I am not sure 9-10 years membership rules out being a nitwit. I have also been here 9.

SoCalDesertRider,

I joined this forum just about when you did (10 years ago!)

I have been posting less and less.

I have noticed that more than one of the newer "members" are quick to find big fault in other's suggestions. STFU nitwits

Ten years for me is 11/29/03. Might not make it to 10.......

This forum has a feature when you open a thread that I wish the RV.net forums had: www.tractorbynet.com

Anyone know what it is?

OK, the answer is: At the bottom of each thread, there is a "Similar Threads" section. It automatically finds other threads that may relate to the topic. I find it very helpfull.

Probably a big reason. Newbies and others who have posted questions in the past sometimes get chastised by other members for "not doing a search" :R in the forums. Scares a lot of people from asking questions, IMHO. :S

Hey if you come across a topic that has been discussed many times before, then why not just skip over it and move on to the next topic? No sweat off your nose. Just turn the page ---------------->

Thank you... there is A LOT of that on this forum, and quite a few "elitists" to go along too.

I don't post daily as I really tire of all of the Ego's and wannabe God's that troll here at times.

I'm not good at documenting our trips with photos - There is little interest to read a bunch of prose without illustration. We just completed a 10-day loop of the Olympic Peninsula and are headed close to the Canadian border in couple days. I may mention our trips in context, but rarely post a TR.

Also, I am used to forums that allow photo and document hosting. Having to use a third party host with links adds to the time it takes to make new threads or even help in existing ones. If you already use a third party to share photos, you either need to make sure your security settings are enabled so only the right audience sees your photos or you need maintain multiple accounts with duplicate information.

I have met hundeds of TC owners... many have been to our house for visits and we have visited many all over north america...

Plus, there have been more than 50 TC's in my driveway for help with modifications or repairs. Just out of friendship.

I've never been to a rally... the closest would be Hope Valley with 5 other TC's

I have allergy induced asthma... I avoid places where there is smoke (like camp grounds) and I don't expect others do camp without their fires.

Fewer people seem to be traveling... at least east of the Missisippi.

The conclusion that was reached in the previous discussion, roughly a year ago, was that forums are being sidelined by more main stream Social Media services, like FB, Pintrest, etc....

As for me, life just keeps getting in the way. It's been a year since my big trip, and I've only posted the first three days of a two month journey.

I personally like the "what did you do to your TC today" posts. I don't think it was ever meant to replace original posts. Just a short line or two, maybe a quick picture. It keeps people in touch, generates ideas for other topics, etc. Isn't really meant to be an indepth searchable topic. Least that is how I look at it.

I was surprised to see you don't like it, Sleepy! You have one of the longest posts running on this forum. Try searching your travel post. I encouraged you to break it up a couple years ago and make it seperate posts but you opted to go a different route but I think it can be intimidating to new forum members.

Don't get me wrong, I read it and keep up with you and Janet, I just didn't think it was the best way to go about it.

5) I think there are less physical contacts too... we don't get to know and visit each other as much as we did a few years ago. mainly... we just don't get to know each other.

Sleepy

Seems to me there is still a fair amount of meeting-up going on looking at all the rallies and the trip reports. And there were plenty of people to meet at Expo this year.

I was thinking the other day about the theory of "six degrees of separation" - made me wonder how close the network of connections are between forum members when considering those who have physically met each other. Pretty close probably. E.g. despite the amount we communicate I've not met Sleepy, but I've met Silversand who has met Sleepy, etc.

Hmm, I really haven't noticed any real difference. The TC forum has had about 1-1/2 pages of updated posts per day since I've been around.

Found it, joined it (but then you know that Doug 🙂 ). Didn't notice it was "east coast" - I guess you and I don't really quite fit geographically :S

Any reason why the photo disappeared?
Speaking of Italy. I saw this on the Amalfi coast, good place for it., Who is going to be the first to guess the name?

I can still see the photo.

Oh, and because of the narrow roads around the Amalfi peninsula you tend to see scaled down trucks, buses, etc. Don't know who makes them. Probably from northern Italy, Austria or Switzerland if I were to guess.

PS - we are planning to be in the Dolomites next summer.

Stop stringing us along and GET YOURSELF A TRUCK CAMPER :B - you know it makes sense.

All the best,
