matress is terrible

The mattress that came with my trailer is the worst. Can it be replaced by an ordinary queen matress sold in stores?

After measuring I found that we have a "short" queen. There's a couple inches wiggle room, but not enough to fit an 80" queen. I went ahead and ordered this one. Great reviews. If they hold true I think we'll be happy with it. We're looking forward to never sleeping on the Skyline factory back breaker again!

A 4" or greater foam mattress topper works great. If you have one of the short queens then just take a old kitchen knife, heat it up on the stove, then use it to cut the mattress to length. It leaves a nice smooth edge and no mess.

I found that a very sharp butcher knife will do the same thing without heating it.

We bought our trailer used a few years ago. It had not been used very much by the previous owners. I am so glad that they had replaced the mattress with a new queen. We love it...was at one time better than the one we have here at home.

I have bought several new trailers and have yet to leave the dealers lot with the factory mattress.

I worry about the added weight on the bed frame in our Skyline. I'd really like to put a pillow top mattress in there but it looks like it would add about 60 lbs to a lift-up frame that seems to defy the laws of physics.

Our OEM mattress was on upside down so what little padding was in it was on the bottom. It did not take long to discover that.:E

After flipping it over we added a very thick sleeping bag for padding and then a foam top.

This will do for now but a decent mattress is in the future.

We never even took the one from our last 5er out of plastic....hauled it to our basement and bought a proper queen bed from Sears. Now that rig is sold so we shall give the new owner the OEM mattress, and the sears one moves to the next rig. Well worth the $450 we spent six years ago. It should last for the next 3 or 4 trailers.

We got this one RV mattress.

We also got a body pillow (cheap at Wally World) - during the day it sits on top, at night we pull the matress out a bit and but the body pillow behind it, then put our other pillows on top of that. We don't have enough room to have a longer mattress all the time.

As long as you have enough space at the foot of the bed for the extra length to hang over. I have a 28 ft TT with front queen walk around bed. More like scoot around. It came with a 4 inch short RV queen cushion. I placed a full size queen mattress on top of the cushion. The front trailer wall is sloped and the mattress sits 2 - 3 inches further forward than the cushion while laying on top of the cushion. I can still side step by between the mattress and "living room" wall at the foot of the bed although it is a bit tighter (there's about 5 inches less than there used to be).

Rvs can have son=me odd sized ones.

I found a mattress manufacturer in my town that will make anything you want. I got a 13" tall pillowtop inerspring made to my size for a little over 200.00. It only took 4 days, and is fantastic... Much lighter than the foam one it replaced as well.

Ours was a 4" cheap one that came with the unit. We replaced it with a 10" latex standard queen and have been in heaven ever since. We have a foam one at home and it is OK, but this one is much better. It is a little too firm for the wife and her back is bothered by that at times but not always. I sleep like a baby... Look into one if you can.

Our Queen size RV mattress is memory foam but just wasn't as comfortable as we wanted. I ordered this mattress topper from Amazon. I trimmed it 3" with a sharp butcher knife. It made a world of difference in comfort. Now we are 100% satisfied.
