Well as you can see by my sig I own a 08 6.4 and its had some probs over its 80K miles many of which are towing miles. Well yesterday my freind called me and after 67K miles with all on schedule maintenence and taking well care off, The engine had BLOWN UP!. He is mad, he has had to replace 2 injectors and an engine wireing harness about 2 years ago that cost over 2 grand. so if you think about it the truck cost 37K with 2K in repairs plus all maint at ford, thats over $40K for 67K of unreliable service. He now has an great looking yard ornament with his recent job loss no way to fix it.SAD AINT IT!

3 pages and no sign of the OP... Can y'all say, "I've been had?"
Sorry I could not respond before now I have been workin. Now to clear up a few things, he is the original owner, he ordered it from ford, no chip or any other mods of any kind, something let go and the block is not salvagable. The truck has been garaged since day one! the ford dealer recomends a remaned engine. There is no reason this should have hapened! I have owned 2 6.0 psd trucks an 04 and an 06 both left me stranded and the 04 stayed in the shop ona monthly basis. I also purchased both brand new.I am the o p btw. wills 250psd

Sorry for your friends trouble and job loss. I would take the truck to an independent mechanic. Myself I have found a powerstroke specialist that I trust, but I can understand his frustration. Hard to have work done with no money to pay for it.

It's not complicated: GM is stepping up and warrantying them, while Ford is reaming their customers.

Many GM owners may have gotten their trucks back from warranty work not really knowing that their complete fuel system was replaced under warranty. Therefore they are not on the net posting about the issue.

The Ford owners that got the bill for the work are front and center!

GM has not had near the number of reported CP4.2 failures that Ford has had.

So how do you know they have had less, neither is going to tell how many failures are occurring. Ford however was included in the NHTSA investigation of the CP4.1 on the VW's. So they are providing those numbers to the feds.

GM is just quietly fixing them. So people are not coming on the web and reporting how GM screwed them by blaming the problem on the users fueling.

Chris

Nothing scientific but if you go to the Dmax forum you can count the number of reported CP4 failures on one hand. By contrast reported failures on Powerstroke forums is notably higher. You can read into it what you want. Ford also appears to be denying warranty claims for many which is complete B. S.

I'll take a TUPY-block ISB over any post-2002 Ford diesel. Note: many "53" blocks went 200,000+ miles in commercial service without a problem.

The GM numbers are also available from NHSTA.
GMs rate, last I looked was higher than Fords... But Ford isn't counting the ones that they denied warranty on. I suspect that the actual total failure rates are so close as to be considered equal.
How the two companys treat their customers... Not so equal.

Not sure what really went on here, but I can say that I've read about a lot more common rail Cummins burning up a piston and trashing the motor! :W Linky

Took him that long to find that "linky";)

Now that is funny right there! To Fishes credit, he did find one. But then again, even Rolls Royce comes with a warrantee! :B

From your avatar is appears you have a LBZ. DO NOT ever sell it! The late 2006 LBZ to early 2007 LBZ Classics with 6 speed ally are best of bread.

This is why people should run from the 6.0. No they are not all bad. But ifg you get caught with a bad one you are totally screwed. Why things have quieted down in recent years, These 6.0 stories still occur.
No I don't expect Ford to warranty a 10 year old truck but I do expect Ford to make a truck to last 10 without a catastrophic failure.
Notice the OP wrote no chips, garage kept, maintenance completed.
No answers/help/support from Ford. These are well known issues at this point.

Simply put this story is why after 15 years and 2 trucks I no longer own a Ford.
