AZ is a 'pay and refund' state and only state with two diesel tax rates at the pump.
Use Fuel (Diesel) Tax Two Rates:
•18 cents per gallon for “light class” vehicles
Weigh 26,000 pounds or less OR
Not more than 2 axles
•26 cents per gallon for “use class” vehicles
Weigh more than 26,000 pounds OR
More than 2 axles
Fuel Tax Refund Compliance Unit:
•Arizona is a “pay and refund” state
Use Fuel tax is reported and paid on a monthly basis
Refunds granted upon request for exemptions
•Use Fuel refunds for diesel differential are the largest component of unit
The above info was pulled from.....pg. 3-6
ARIZONA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

ADOT FAQ>>>>........LINK
If I fuel a light class/exempt vehicle at a diesel pump that is displaying the use class tax decal (26¢), must the station give me a refund for the 8¢ difference?
The service station must refund the 8¢ per gallon if you request it. If a pump is used for sales to both classes of vehicles, a decal listing the 26¢ per gallon tax rate must be posted on that pump. Violations involving the 8¢ refunds may be reported to ADOT.
Looks like IF you request at time of sale..station must refund.
If you don't request........too bad
Maybe an AZ resident can shed some light on 'refunds claims requests'
AFTER the fact.
I can't find any means of requesting a refund (unless you are a 'vendor') except at time of sale.
ADOT REFUNDS.........LINK
Refunds are available for Arizona state tax paid on fuel that is
*for a licensed vendor to request the 8¢ per gallon tax refund on diesel fuel sold or dispensed into light class or exempt use class vehicles.
SO request your $.08/gallon refund right after you fuel.
Just think how much that non-refunded $.08 per gallon has added extra funds to AZ
THANKS! SoCalDesertRider for the heads up.

I'm an AZ resident and have encountered this additional tax only in the truck lanes and never at the car or RV pumps. I always first ask for the discount before pumping. So no refund as this tax is subtracted before pumping - which could I guess be considered a type of refund.
My Pilot Frequent Fueler RV card automatically gives me 3 cents off of the car cash price regardless of which pump I use. ie 3 cents off after the 8 cent non truck tax is removed. It also starts the truck pump.

Since I'm out here in AZ now, I have noticed some diesel pumps here have a government notice on them stating that, for any non-commercial vehicle, or commercial vehicle under 26,000 GVW and with less than 3 axles on the truck, please see station attendent for an 8 cent per gallon tax rebate.
The notice is a fine print sticker on the pump, mixed in with all the other fine print government required stickers on the pump, which I typically never read. I got bored pumping at this slow pump and decided to read them all.
I went into the station and asked about it and the attendant had me fill out a log book and refunded me 8 cents for every gallon I pumped! 🙂 Hooray for being bored at the pump and reading warning labels, haha!
I asked if this applied to every diesel pump in the state, or just his company, but he did not know any details.
Anyone know anything about this?
What station or chain was it? Circle K, Quick trip or some other mom and pop station?

The Arizona House of Representatives is obviously clueless about combinatorial logic. The "not" of an "or" combination is the "and" of the individual "nots", so one of the two statements should be an "and" and not an "or". This law makes no sense logically.
Lawyers wrote it not grammar teachers.
IF you weight more than 26,000# or have more than 2 axles regardless of your weight........you are a 'use class' vehicle....no refund.
