I am coming up on year 6 with my factory installed Goodyear Marathon tires. They still look great but I am worried about a blowout after reading about it all over the internet and the dangers of trailer tires over 5 years old. So after calling a bunch of local tire shops I have narrowed it down to a few choices. Opinions please.....which ones will be my best choice? My tire size is 205/75R14

Carlisle, Goodyear, Vitour, Towmax, or Autogrip

Thank you!

is a recent thread discussing the Carlisle Radial Trail RH. Difficult to find any reports on problems with them. Yes, they're made in China, but if one is paying attention you'll find very few reports of problems over the past few years with those either. I think the "China bomb" issue is mostly history, or old stock.

Awesome to see! I am getting even closer now to making a decision. I just need to call my tire place and ask if they have the RH. Thanks 🙂

5 year old Goodyear tires? They are just waiting for a place to blow. IMOP you are driving on borrowed time. I would get them off now.

I shreaded a 4 year old Goodyear that was perfectly aired, and cared for. So for me. No tires over 4 years old, and NO Goodyears at all. Never will there be another Goodyear on my TT, or any other vehicle for that matter.

Don't what, make "china bombs" or don't have two plants in China ?

The problem is not with Chinese tires.
The problem is with the lack of oversight the company purchasing the tire exerts of the manufacturing process.
Michelin has facilities in China but does not export the to the USA. To Canada yes USA no. That said a Michelin is a Michelin and wherever made
it is made to Michelin SPECS. NO qualms should be had buying them.
Other companies buy tires made in China by Chinese but put no effort into ensuring a quality product. They just buy a certain number of tires supposedly made to a certain spec. Others just buy tires and have the company manufacturing put their name on them

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

I,d be in no rush, sounds like you did the maint on them. but stay away from china bombs ,they got that rep from being junk, some get lucky and think there great. .but one blows and does a few thousand dollars of damage to the under side. they,ll think again about buying them.I like michlins .

Michelin has two manufacturing plants in China, so I guess they also make "china bombs". :B

Luke - I believe they were Karrier Loadstars and they held up extremely well for me. The Carlisles I can't / won't be able to tell you. We were considering selling the TT for some time, and after the tire failure, there was no way I could just put on the spare, and feel right about selling it!

I purchased the Carlisles last week, and sold the TT today without ever having towed it !

Great TT.......miss it already, but we are seriously considering a class C purchase.

I just replaced mine with Carlisles. It is difficult to find a 14" tire not made over seas. We were starting our sixth season with the original tires ( so called China bombs) and two weeks after returning from the Keys, and while parked in the RV garage it developed a large budge on the door side front tire.

I've read a 100+ posts about replacing them at four or five years, and now I am a firm believer!

Parked out of the sun light, routine tire pressure checks..........and I was lucky it seperated while parked, and not on the interstate two weeks prior!

Good luck !

What were the original tires and how do you like the Carlisle's?

Actually I just read that Maxxis are made in Taiwan. Crazy huh? How do you like your Carlisle's?
