Need some advice!

Can anyone help me identify and research info about this Truck Camper? It is for sale, and the owner knows nothing about it. He took it in on a trade, and he never used it. He called it an Americana, and said that it was a custom camper! I will try to send the photos he posted. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. I am a mother of 2 adventurous young kids that want to camp this summer. I want to pull another toy behind so this would allow me that option. Thanks for any info bad or good;)

Good luck. If it is a 90's it might be worth the 3000. They are tough as nails campers for sure. Heavy and tough that is, so sooooooo cool.

He wants 3000! What!!!! I think it's way too much for my 5 ft tall self to handle! Although it is very cool! I think it would be better as a bomb shelter lol:) I still want to go look at it I wish I had a crane! Limbo! Thanks for all the help! I think that I will travel the 30 miles to look at it just to see one anyway! If it's in good shape I will let y'all know. Have a great weekend!

How much are they asking. Should only be around 1000 bucks if a 70's model

The pic posted is an Amerigo 11.6. It probably has the tilt out snap n nap in the back which allows for 6 sleeping people. I currently own and I am renovating this exact camper. It is made for a 1 ton 3500, 8 foot bed. It is very very heavy. Approximately 2700 pounds dry. Most were built in the 70's and re introduced for just a couple of years in the 90's. They are very sought after for those interested in a very unique vintage camper. Built like a whale. I know almost every inch of these models. I personally love them, for the mere fact they have a full 1 piece fiberglass roof and front wrap around fiberglass cab over.

Gig,
It does look heavy. Purdy, though. As above: figgedaboutit. It needs a 350 or 3500, long bed. Keep looking, or get another truck that could handle that load. There is a high percentage of folks on here who have further improved their weight carrying capability just to handle the truck camper.
You do need a TC that is specifically made for a short bed truck. The unfortunate fact is there many fewer campers made for a SB. Further, a 2500 SB, even HD, has fewer campers that can be carried without some suspension modifications. Look at the GVWR listed on the door pillar or in the glove box. I suspect it's 8800 pounds or up to 9200 pounds, which limits the amount of weight you can carry (usually because of the limit on the stock tires).

The camper appears to be an LB model, meaning it is built for an 8' bed. If this is the case it won't work on you short bed truck. The camper would be in the 11' 6" range to 12' long. On your SB it would hang over the back by about 5' or more, not going to work. Also the COG (Center Of Gravity) would be way behind your rear axle.

You need to keep your eyes out for a camper built for a SB truck.

Also if you were to try and tow something behind with a SB truck you would need a hitch extension of over 5 more than likely 6'.

Also welcome to the forum. Lots of good info here just for the asking.

A race to help:)
I know why it looked familiar- its an Amerigo...the name you used threw me.

Heres a link from the TCU sticky http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/26362225.cfm, an Amerigo rebuild page which links to http://www.tcreviver.com/
Searching this forum using Amerigo might yield some results (re-title thread would help)

edit even has a brochure-looks almost the same camper...

Well darn, I will keep trying!!! It is big , heavy and a solid 1 piece fiberglass shell. I have a Chevy hd 2500 diesel. Not a long bed though. The door is on the right side, not the back. He says it's a 90s model, Americana custom built maybe out of California. I'll keep trying to post the pic, maybe my 6 year old can do it lol.

What you last posted is a link to the library (though not click-able)
http://s62.photobucket.com/user/giagbella/library/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-03
which in the editor the 'Link' button to create a link
Use the 'Image' button to paste an actual picture link (which would end in .jpg .

this address pasted into/using the image editor window would produce

the other image is a very small thumbnail?

Dont know anything about the camper-nice old camper, looks familur-heavy and long (side door). Not knowing weight of camper or truck cant say as to match, could mention towing behind it though because of size, more than likley would require an extended hitch setup...
