Hello. Need to replace my Coleman 9200 btu. I have heard that the new units are very noisy. Anyone have any experience with the new ones and are there other brands that are quieter?

I found a video of the before and after, sounds pretty significant. Now to try track down the upgrade kit up here.

The Coleman Mach 8 9200 btu is the unit you are talking about. I got one installed in August, the fan was extremely loud when listened to from the outside of the truck. I discovered on this forum that Airxcel sells a retrofit fan kit that quiets the unit. I ordered it from Camping World and will review it when it gets here.

I hear all the newer ones have the new fan already installed.

Just remember that in very hot conditions, when the interior of your TC is already above 90 it will take some time to cool things down. According to the manual, you can expect these units to cool 15 to 20 degrees below outside ambient temperature. Not a lot when it is over 100 out...

As I understand, not only is an over-sized A/C due to the frequent cycling, but it is not as efficient as the smaller unit in removing the humidity.

I too have the 9200 btu Polar Cub. Never a problem since about 2004.

We just installed a Coleman 9200 and while the fan only runs you can't tell its even on on the outside. Yes you can hear the compressor when it kicks in but not all that noisy. We were told by camper repair guy that did all the work that the smallest unit that does the job is than better than overkill since the larger units will cycle more often and shorten the compressor life. Our camper is a 1990 Shadow Cruiser 9.5 and believe me it cools that puppy down REAL good! The Honda 2000 runs it fine but not the microwave at the same time without overloading the gen. We were also instructed to run AC on High in high humidity to prevent freeze up of the unit. We've followed their instructions without issue. On our living quarters house trailer with a 13500 AC unit we had to run two 2000 to run the AC. Your call tho.

Atwood AC 16K at 11.3 amps input. The Honda 13.3 amps output. Looks like it would work.

According to their brochure, you can run the 16K (13,500) equivalent unit on a single 2000 generator. Here's a link to their document. Look at the very bottom for the statement.

Is the AW a 13,500 or do they make a smaller unit ?
Can we run the AW thru the Honda 2000 ?

Tnx, Bob
