New F250 Ford

I am going to look at a new 2017 Ford F250 XLT which is loaded. Has the 6.2L EFI eng V8. This is at a Ford Dealership. Does anyone have one? what is the good or bad? What would be a good price? I wanted a 2018 or order a 2019 but I can get this one for $40K I just wonder how it will perform compared to my F250 2003 with just over 100K with the V10 eng which I love

We have an '09 6.8l V10 F250. IIRC, the engine puts out 362 HP which is nothing spectacular these days. It runs great and see no need to replace it for years.

But if we did replace it, what is HP like in the new V8s? Our V10 gas mileage when towing is in the 8-9 mpg range. How does that compare also? Our F250 gets lousy gas mileage for local in-town driving. Is the new V8 better for short local trips? How does the V8 rev compared to the V10? Higher or lower rpms at higher end and does it match well with the higher (numerically) rear ends? I love how the V10 winds out and pulls with the 4.1 rear end when towing.

The one thing I hate with a passion on our F250 is the 4WD. It's much higher off the ground, takes away payload and is more cr*p to maintain. Have never ever needed it even once. I would go out of my way to find 2WD next time around.

A 6.2L F250 should have no problem towing a 7,500 lbs trailer.

As far as gas versus diesel, I think it depends on how much towing you're going to be doing. If it's like my typical experience (8 ~ 10 times a year with trips that are under a 100 miles), with most of the other times you're driving it's everyday commuting you're not getting the benefit of diesel power.

The diesel option is about $10K so if you get 10 more miles per gallon and gas/diesel fuel is $3/gallon it's going to take you over 150K to cover the initial cost of the diesel over the gas truck via better gas mileage. If you have a flex fuel gasser, you're saving close to $0.95 a gallon (my area) in fuel cost so the better gas mileage of a diesel is somewhat negated by the lower cost of flex fuel even though flex fuel isn't as energy efficient as regular gas.

On the highway I'm getting around 16 ~ 18 mpg with the 6.2L 3.73 and while towing I'm getting 10 ~ 11 mpg.

That's also impressive MPGs for that large of an engine. Where do I get one?
I am NOT a mechanic although I do play one in my garage!

Curious what kind of MPG the 6.2 gets in the SD on Rural 55 MPH roads. I can see the 6.7 getting 18-22 on the roads I drive every day, so wonder how close the gas could get. At some point I am going to go to an F350 and get rid of my troublesome F150.

Actually a leaked confidential engine oil specification list for the 2020 engines has it listed as a 7.3L and is rumored to be a pushrod engine.

Either way it's going to be a beast and I would hold off for one more model year. Kind of like cummins98V waiting for the new cummins engine per the cummins tour lady in know who gave him a wink and blew a kiss in his ear. That CGI block cummins is going to is way over due.

$40K for a 4x2 seems steep to me also. I've got a 350 with the 6.2 and couldn't be more happy with it. Pulls our trailer fine and doesn't lack any power at all. Push the skinny pedal down and she just goes. Had diesels in the past and don't miss the expensive maintenance. Ride is nice and they did a good job on the redesign. MPG's are as expected but don't really care since I didn't pay the $9K for the diesel option that will never pay for itself. This one should last at least 17 years like the old one did.

^ True, but weโ€™ll always be waiting for the next best thing. And tried n true ainโ€™t bad either. If the โ€œlittleโ€6.2 does the trick, I wouldnโ€™t wait for the new monster.
Besides the HD version ainโ€™t going to be no 575hp. Maaaaybe 450hp in HD truck trim.
Iโ€™m guilty of it too. I waited a couple years hoping for a new platform for a new car. Finally bought the 13-15 year old platform....and itโ€™s great.
Feels like a new platform compare to the โ€œsameโ€ chassis that is 12 years old sitting next to it in the garage.

Rumors I hear is the 7.0 will be a replacement for the V10. Likely to be used in the F-550 and bigger trucks. I have a hard time believing Ford will kill the 6.2 which is only 7 years old, with a 7.0 that will drink the fuel even more.

Sill will be cheaper than the diesel option. Everything is pricey now.

That engine is rumored to have 575 HP and 625 lb/tq with a 10 sp transmission. Don't know if it will be de-tuned for the 250's and up, but it would probably be safe to think it would for longevity's sake.
