New truck and TC.

Well after selling my Okanagan 811SL back in 2013 I think it was. Wish I had never gotten rid of it. But my wife wanted the 2012 Heartland Landmark Key Largo. Now don't get me wrong, all the room is nice. But then again all that room in a pain at 41ft long.

So now she wants to go back to a TC. Talked her into a Host 2 slide or 3 slide. I only want it to be one with both sides into the bed.

So now who uses a Ram 3500 with the air bags from the factory with a Bigger Truck Camper? Also the one were looking at has the flip out steps under the rear bumper. I'm thinking these may have to come off? To give me room to mount the Camper tie downs?

Now I found a set of SS fast guns. I think at a good price. They look new and there asking $450. for the full set of 4.

Know there will be lots more questions on the 2021 Ram and the Host TC before I'm done. But Man I'm looking forward to being back in a Truck camper again.

Just wondering why you think a DRW won’t have enough axle capacity. Isn’t it something like 12K?

Pete I am in a similar situation. I have an 2006 f350 dually with a9' 6" slide in. My gvw is 14000 lbs, truck weighs with 7/8 fuel tank horse matt, and me in it 8250lbs. Giving me approximately 5725lbs for my new host Cascade. I feel like I'm gonna be ok with these numbers unless camper weighs more than I'm expecting (they always do). I almost went down the fifth wheel road but I'm glad I didn't. I'm only trading for more comfortable seating. Barry

Top heavy load + max capacity of truck = don’t get the factory air assist.

The 3500 will carry any Host but the triple slides will take you over GVWR. If you plan to tow anything with tongue weight behind the Host, the Class 3's have insufficient axle capacity.

Can’t help you on the camper but I know it’s heavy.
I just bought a 21 Ram DWR and am looking for a TC but not as many out there as in the past.
I like the Bigfoot 10.4 but the only one on RV Trader is a new one “coming soon” for $70k!!! I’ll probably look for a clean Lance 981 or newer with a 975.
If you don’t have the truck I would skip the factory airbag option as I’ve heard it doesn’t work that well for a heavy TC.
I just installed my Torklift front tiedowns yesterday and should be getting my rear tiedowns and SuperHitch tomorrow. Pretty easy install but the drivers side takes a bit longer as you have to disconnect the parking brake cables and reroute them through the tiedown bracket. (Release the brake first to save time un threading the long bolt.)
These brackets are very beefy and probably weigh 10 lbs each.
I’m pretty sure the rear bumper steps will interfere with the rear tiedowns.
I’m going to try the Timbren suspension first and if more is needed probably go with the Stable Loads. Also have a Hellwig Big Wig from a previous truck I plan to install.
You will LOVE the new Rams!

With the size camper you are talking about I'd be looking at 5500, not 3500 that you have to do a lot of mods to.

OP: All I can say is that when it comes to big and heavy campers just about everybody with a 1T truck has done modifications to their truck to carry the camper better.

I will add that it is always best to get the camper loaded and packed ready for camping and take it for a test drive/trip to see what (if any) issues come up that a modification might address.
