Newbie - Leveling on Driveway

Hello,

New to this site and travel trailers. Purchased our first camping trailer this spring =).

I will be parking it on my driveway while it isn't in use but wanted to get it as level as possible. My understanding is that it is needed to be level if I want to run the fridge.

My driveway slopes down and then the street slopes up so when I am unhitching my trailer the bottom of the tongue jack (while it is all the way up) is only about 6 inches from the driveway. I used a block of wood under that and then jack up the trailer with the tongue jack. I still need to go up quite a bit to get it level and wondering how I would be able to do this. I have also read that some trailers have stabilizer jacks that can be used to actually lift the trailer (allowing me to get more blocking under the tongue jack), but other places I have read that they aren't meant to hold the weight.

My goal was to be able to start the fridge a day or so before we head out camping so it gets down to the proper temp.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

(I tried to attach a picture, not sure if that was the right way)

I know what the problem is. when he is unhitching the front of the truck is up and the rear is down along with the trailer making it only able to put a 6" piece of wood under the tongue. However looking at the picture it doesn't look bad. if it is here is what I would do. before you unhook chock the wheels then raise the tongue and lower the front jacks. then raise the tongue jack and add more blocks to be able to raise the trailer to level. the jacks will be able to support that weight and will not damage the trailer because the rear jacks will not be down. damage comes from when you try and lift the trailer with both front and rear stabilizing jacks, they will twist the frame when used like that. stab jacks at the front corners used the way I described will do no damage.

Once you figure out where level is and can go back to that point, put enough of a slope on the trailer to let water and debris wash off the roof.

You can put it back to level just before your trips and start the refrigerator, although a small front to back slope should not adversely affect the fridge anyway.

My own driveway slopes far more to the street than it appears yours does ...when level the rear bumper is only ~ 10" off the ground while the tongue is close to 3', and this is with a much shorter trailer that's just 22.5' long. :E The solution is simple - I use a triple stack of 2x, each stack being 6" tall, effectively bringing ground level under the coupler up by 18". Multiple stacks rather than one single stack allows me to unhitch / hitch up in stages, using a tripod stand under the A frame in stages to achieve this.

Since my driveway slopes so much toward the street it would instantly roll away if not securely chocked ... to do that I use the weight of the trailer bearing down on a set of wheel pads to which are screwed / glued a set of rubber chocks. Absolutely no way this trailer can shift. :B

My experience is: that if it is comfortable to walk in the rig. If you don't feel that it is not too tilted or slanted, then the fridge will be OK.

Refrigerator and level trailer-
Get the trailer as level is possible by trying to use some 10x10 or 12x12 blocks of wood. Have the blocks cut at the lumber yard. Then just turn on your refrigerator on and put ice cube tray filled with water and then check to see if the ice cubes are frozen. If yes, then you are level enough.

I will have to measure to get exact but my estimate is about 12 inches.
