do you own a 3500 reg cab ram dually

I'm thinking seriously about getting a 3500 reg cab Ram dually. I live in a city near downtown and have a short driveway. Besides that, the length is easier to park, turn and fits in with my idea of a short over all length 5th wheel and trailer, since our travel during winter includes Nat Parks, cty and state parks.
A dually would be overkill for the 30 ft length 5th wheel but I view that as a plus. I also like the mad max look of a reg cab dually. Does anyone have a ram reg cab dually and how hard is the ride with the air suspension option?
Invariably I'm going to get the naysayers who will respond with "it's a truck, what do you expect," kind of response, but this will be my only drive, so it's a balance between what I really want and whether or not my wife will hate it. As long as the ride is tolerably, she's okay with it.

I think the reason why your not seeing anyone post is because you can't get a regular cab in any trim level above an SLT. Most commercial trucks are tradesman trim level. While popular for a commercial work truck it's not so popular for the RV community who mostly go for the high end trim packages or need the cab space for kids or gear.

Just looked up the regular cab long bed is 230" long and the crew short bed is 237" so not much really in length difference. I did go in and configure an SLT and you can get it pretty loaded up near Laramie trim short of the heated/cooled leather. So it could be pretty tricked out from the factory.


We got a Reg Cab SLT 2500 with the Lux, Snow Chief and a few other options. It's a nice truck. Very comfortable on long trips. A little noisy, perhaps the higher trim levels have more sound deadening material.

A couple of negatives are: the electric driver's seat back is too slow to tilt. The manual passenger seat tilt is faster and easier for stowing stuff behind it. And there's a surprising amount of space back there.

And the diesel tank on Reg cabs is only 28g, 3g less than the crew cabs. But maybe the 3500 DRW are different there, dunno. Anyway, with an 8' bed, there's lots of room for an aftermarket tank.

Not relevant to the OP, but to others looking at the 2500, the Reg Cab and SLT combo does give you good payload if you're worried about that, even with a diesel. My payload is a bit over 2500#.

I would check local Gov and utility company auctions if you decide to move forward with the regular cab. Lots of reg cab duallys around here if you can take the plain vanilla ones.
I would suspect the reg cab long beds would ride just like the extra cab short beds. Keep the tires down at 60 when not towing and you should be good to go. I take it you have no kids still at home or pets?

Dutch and Di that post on here have owned a regular cab dually since 1994 or so and have a current 2015 I believe, they love it!

Thanks for the opinions. As I mentioned, my driveway is short and it would be easier to park a reg long bed in town. When my 5th wh pulling days are over, I might then get a TC for the dually, but that's on the back burner for now. I think a lot of responders are wrong in thinking there's no market for the reg cab. Commercial use is popular for the reg cab. I was hoping someone out there on the forum had a newer (post 2014) that could give me personal insight.

So, other than the appearance, why a dually if you don't need the capacity? If you like the looks, I get that. I think the Ram dually is probably the best looking truck on the planet, but I'd only get one if I needed to pack over 4K in the bed or tow a fifth wheel with a 3500+ lb. pin weight.

Yes, but not a shorter bed. A regular cab dually will have an 8 ft bed.

I love the look of that setup. I have a friend with an early 90s version of that body style. I call it the turtle. I've had drw Cummins trucks and love them. The annoyances will be outweighed by the awesomeness when towing.

Probably not going to find anyone that has a Regular Cab truck let alone a NEW Regular Cab Dually

Regular cabs are few and far in between.

Doubt a dealer would even stock one due to so few niche customers.

Shorter cab, shorter box, shorter wheel base---gonna ride like a truck :B

This reg cab 3500
configuration is rare on the sellers lots. I've had crew cab duallies (4) in the past and they all rode fine. It's a reg cab that I'm trying to get the opinion on. Thanks.

I think you should just go test drive one over the roads where you are. Then you can see what your tolerance level is. Ride comfort is relative to the person. They are stiff and rough riding but if you have good roads where you are then it probably won't be bad. If your roads are rough you will feel it.
Every dually I have owned has rode like **** unloaded but that is personal opinion.

Have been driving a quad cab dually since 2007. Love it. It does take some getting used to, but totally doable for thosemthat really need to weight capacity. Personally instead of the regular cab I would opt for a crew cab short bed dually. The extra cab space is worth it to me.
