Hello All,
I bought me a Nissan Titan XD with the Cummins Diesel. I have always been a Ford F-Series driver until now. I was so impressed with the Nissan Titan XD's power train setup. I can't wait to put my Travel trailer behind it, but I did get to pull 7500 pounds with it over the the mountains of East TN. Check out my Review. I warn you, it is a long video. The last is better. I was hardly awake in the beginning of the trip.

Rider, your right, your Nissan is a nice look’in truck and that 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty is way better look’in than the big 3’s warranties! Great video.

I have towed several times now, and the Nissan Titan XD is a different beast. It tows like a 3/4 ton, but rides better. It is as big as a 3/4 ton with a very long wheel base and it shows in parking.

I like the look of the Titan XD too. Seems like a great compromise for people who tow & don't want a 3/4 ton truck.

It’s no different then as to why the F250 PS is a better choice even with its lower payload ratings, weight. As to real world XD numbers there’s no secrets, they’re readily available around the web. My particular truck has a RAWR of 4900lbs and a payload of 1820lbs. Hitch rating is 1200 with WD recommended above 5k not required, max pin weight is 1771lbs. The frame is 68% 440/540 MPa , 32% 370/390 MPa HSS.

I think he is saying a heavier built truck will just naturally handle a load better. The Nissan Titan XD Diesel and the Ford F150 are rated nearly the same. Having said that, The Nissan Titan XD is built with heavier axle, heavier frame, etc. Both are rated near the same, but one will do it better. It seems pretty clear cut to me. Maybe he will post again an re-explain it again.


The 150 HDPP has a lot of upgrades too including frame thickness and axle/springs over all the other 150s. Be interesting to know how closely they compare spec wise as it is not just RAWR and payload that count. But no one seems to want to post actual specs for the Titan. What's the RAWR and payload on a crew cab diesel spec? What's the frame steel tensile PSI and thickness? What's the hitch rated at?

I would have to tow with both to see which is better, but honestly I don't care. I made my choice already. Mine is fantastic while towing 8000 lbs at a total combined GVW of 15,700. I can't see the Titan being significantly better. And it's still ugly. 😉

Payloads are a GVWR based number and can overload some (not all) trucks rear axle if its all used in the bed.


I'd like to know real world stickers on these rigs. I bought a new HDPP F150, 4800 RAWR, 2306 payload instead of the Titan. I scaled it with my 7500 lb trailer and a full load and still had 150 left on the RAWR.

I was interested in the Titan diesel until I heard that the rating weren't all that great, and saw that it was ugly as sin. 🙂 I've seen very few on the road (they are just as ugly live) while I see all kinds of F150s every day.

Curious how the engine braking is working on these trucks. Has any of the online truck mags done one of their standard downhill run with trailer and counted brake applications?

Nissan/Cummins don't talk about an exhaust brake but apparently the Holset turbo can go into a regen mode where engine back pressure and exhaust temps increase. Wonder if that's used to keep speeds down?

What does the payload sticker say? And what is the GAWR for the rear axle? Those are the numbers that matter to me. Thanks!

Some say their XD has a 4900 RAWR.... which equates to around 2200 lbs payload in the bed depending on actual scaled rear axle weights which puts it up there with Fords F150HD at 4800 RAWR.
