Oil changes en-route with camper on truck?

Currently in need of an diesel oil change while en-route. Some service centers can't handle the weight of the truck with camper on.
They need the camper dis-mounted from the truck.
Any recommendations on getting a good reliable service company to do and oil change without having to dis-mount the camper would be appreciated.

They put $75 worth of juice and parts (on sale) into your truck for $80? I’ll take everything I own there!

Yes, that's about the cost of it. (Taxes vary by state)

They're literally doing free oil changes at that price. Wallymart here I come!

Good info on Ford's , I would say that if the oil minder is coming on at 5000 miles with "change oil now" it is in extreme mode . It may pay to do an oi l analysis or two like you did to see how accurate the minder is . I know in my GM the mpg reading is optimistic by 2+mpg .

Regarding your oil change interval, your ‘15 model is identical to my ‘16, and per the guidelines in the Diesel engine supplement I’d say your mileage is about right. The Ford and GM diesels use a different means of DPF regeneration, and that does have a significant effect on oil life.

Also, you should be following the “Severe Service” oil recommendations. Hauling your TC probably has your GVW maxed out, and the terrain you’re traveling, ambient temps, and bio-diesel usage all have an effect on oil life, and the type of oil you should be using. The recommended oil for severe service is 5W-40 CJ-4, which is only available as full synthetic. It even says this on the oil filler cap.

I only mention this because when I was taking my truck to the dealership to take advantage of the “free” oil changes they offered when I bought my truck, they always wanted to put 10W-30 non-synthetic oil in it. After the second time of arguing with them, and making them drain out the non-synthetic, I went back to changing my own oil. Free isn’t free if they’re doing it wrong.

Also, this was the first vehicle I’ve owned that had an oil-life minder to tell you when to change the oil, and I was curious as to how accurate it was. My concern was that it was telling me to change the oil too late, rather than too soon, so I sent a sample in the last time I changed the oil. I’m not interested in getting every last mile out of the oil.

Like yours, my oil minder had gone from “change oil soon” to “change oil now”, and I had driven a couple hundred miles beyond that. The report came back saying it was still useable, and the only concern was that there were some oil additive components present that should not have been in the “synthetic” oil I had identified on the submission form. Those components were apparently from the ~1 qt. of non-synthetic oil that was left in the filter from the last “free” oil change.

So like I said, I change my own oil now, and I trust the oil life minder.

Thanks. I had Walmart do mine today. Quick and easy. I have not inspected their work.
There were no oil leaks prior to today. I will slide under the truck tomorrow if it's not too freezing cold and take a look.

It’s ok. About a 1:1000 chance that the filter isn’t tightened. No need to slide under. If there’s not a puddle under it, yer good.

Most likely over tightened, if you can’t remove by hand it was over tightened. Once the gasket contacts 3/4 turn more, never a leak, can get off by hand. I also use old used oil on the gasket, used clean once about 50 years ago, destroyed that filter trying to remove it.

I usually use Wal-Mart but when traveling in the eastern states they seem to have more limited height clearance. I once took the camper off the truck in their parking lot while they did the oil change. It was no big deal for me to do that. They use Shell Rotella which is my preference for a diesel engine. I do oil and filter changes every 5,000 miles whether it needs it or not, still running trouble free after 185,000 miles.

Walmart. We tend to put on a lot of miles with friends and family scattered around so we have done 8-10 changes while traveling. We call ahead to check, only a couple have said no and one in Prescott wanted $50. Every other Walmart has done it for $20 except one that charged about $30. We provide our own oil and filter. If they carried what I wanted I would buy from them as a courtesy. Of all the ones we called only one older store did not have a high door and pit to drive over. One note though, the book says three gallons and that’s what they want to put in our truck. Our truck does not drain oil fast so unless I inform them and watch them they have a tendency to overfill.

Oil changes do not require a lift on a diesel truck.

One of the reasons I use Amsoil and their oil filters is that I can go 15k between oil changes, if necessary. The longest I have ever gone was 11k in one year.

I'm not sure about Ford but that seems a little early to me . My old GMC it's about 7500 to 10000 depending on use . Are you sure you reset the light after the last change ? Modern engines and oils are good for a lot longer than they use to be .
