Hi everyone,
Looking at getting a diesel truck. Would appreciate your feedback on what you have, and what you get.
Please give me a Truck year, make, model, transmission, rear end ratio.

Empty MPG, City/Hwy.
Loaded MPG City/Hwy.

Plus were your at, Mountains, flatland, rolling hills.

Well thanks for all the info everyone. I see this post is not dead and it keeps on giving.
Update. I ended up getting a 2008 Ford F-350 dually Flatbed. And a New 2013 NorthStar Arrow 8.5 Love them both expecially the extra storage compartments on the outside of the camper.
Now these numbers are winter diesel and that tends to be a little less economy I would assume.
Empty 55mph - 15-19
Empty interstate 75mph - 12
T/C loaded - 9.5 any speed

Interesting, my trip back on Sunday from camping and riding ATV's the display showed 8.7MPG when I got home:( 6,000 pound truck camper plus 7,500ish pound enclosed trailer including the toys. Was fighting the wind all the way home. Truck Camper really hurts in the wind.

The Cummins 12v ended in early 98 .

The best my old 94 12v DRW 4:10 4x4 flatbed ever got was 19mpg empty on the highway .

27 US mpg is 32.4 Imperial mpg. My RAV4 barely gets 32 mpg. You must be driving 30 mph. I am not being disrespectfull but in all of my years driving diesel pickups especially Dodge diesels there was non of them that ever got over 24 Imperial mpg (20 US mpg) let alone 20 with a camper. Sorry but you are figuring something wrong.
2003 Dodge Laramie SLT 3500 dually diesel 4x2 auto and 2009 Northstar 9.5 Igloo U. Love this combo. Very fuel efficient, lots of room, easy to park and set up.

I get 16 to 18 MPG on highway empty with my 6.0. I use 5w40 synth. oil and Diesel Kleen. Around town, I get around 13 to 16 MPG.

I am thinking at getting a Class C or class A, but MPG is a killer on these. Some class A with the V10 get 6 to 7 MPG, compare to 13 with my 6.0, it makes a difference at the end of a 6000 miles trip.

Greetings to everyone! We have a 2006 Ford 6.0 PSD CC 4X4 dually 3.73 rear end automatic we are averaging 14.5 to 15.5 mpg empty on trips as well as around town (don't know why there is no change). Not complaining and I use CRC Diesel supplement at EVERY fill up. This is our daily driver. Shopping for a Bigfoot 3000 series, Lance 1181, or Eagle Cap 1160.

We have a 29ft. Winnie Class-C V10 that get 9 mpg. (thing runs like a clock.)

I enjoy the truck no matter what I'm getting for the hand calculated mileage.

To the OP if you are looking for a used diesel, do yourself a favor and get a good extended warrantee with it. And shop around!

Those earlier Cummins where the best engines. Pif Paf, air and fuel, this is all they need to get going, nothing sofisticated like my 6.0 Ford Diesel. They have mechanical injectors, very simple turbo and easy to work on. I heard the new Dodge are just the same as any other Diesel now, depending on the year, some are worst.

My son's truck is a 2001, 12 valves not modified at all. 18 MPG loaded with camper was on highway and when he uses it as a daily runner for short highway / small town he gets around 18 as well. Empty on highway he gets 21 to 22 MPG. And this thing start like a gasser, it was minus 18F yesterday, unpluged and it started right up, two turns of the engine and it was running.

Fuel economy not towing: 16 mpg city, 21 mpg highway
Fuel economy towing: 10 mpg city, 13 mpg highway

Fuel economy is hand calculated, though the trip computer is fairly accurate.
Weight of the Jayco Eagle fifth-wheel is 11,000 pounds with full fresh water tanks, full propane tanks, and full gasoline tank for the generator.

My 2000 Ford F-350 gets about 16-17 mpg empty in town. Empty, on the road, it averges about 18 mpg. It gets 11 mpg when pulling my 34 Avion trailer, on the road. I run 65 to 75 mph on the road, but it certainly eats the fuel. My 1994 Dodge, Cummins got 14 mpg pulling the same trailer.

I bought the diesel to get more miles per tankful of fuel and to have the extra power for accelerating onto freeways and passing and for the engine braking. I have been extremely satisfied with all these aspects of my truck's performance. On a trip this year that involved hauling a 3700 lb. camper load over 10,000 foot passes and never having the engine strain and seldom even downshifting, and going down grades as steep as 19% and not needing to touch the brakes, reinforced the value for me of having the diesel engine with its exhaust brake and the Allison transmission.

One is going to spend a lot on fuel regardless and a lot on a truck and a camper and gear so for me it comes down to comfort and freedom from worrying about adequate power or the ability to control the truck and to stop as needed. For my needs the diesel is worth the extra cost of operation.

My previous truck
2008 F350 4x4 supercab 6.4 diesel with 3.73 rear.
MPG with TC best 12.5 but usually 11mpg
without TC 14mpg
This was with a light foot.
In contrast my 6.2 2011 gasser with a 4.3 rear 4x4 crew gets with the TC a best of 11.5 and averages 10.5 . Without the TC 14-15 mpg with the same drivinghabits.
More power with the diesel but it was overkill. The 6.2 gasser especially with a 4.3 rear is more than adequate for the job.Less upfront cost and less operating costs with the gasser, a no brainer for me.
