Pump Question

Replacing the water pump in my 2004 Outfitter. Replacement is the new Shurflo 4008. The installation directions say I should have an adequate 50 mesh strainer (Shurflo 255 series). The pump I just took off did not have a strainer.

Do I need to order one before proceeding?

Thanks,

Marty

Should use an in-line filter(s) so 'clean' water goes in your fresh water tank
Is it time for your medication or mine?

I have never found anything in any fresh water rv pump strainer.....ever!

How dirty is the fresh water tank :H

Guess 'new' there could be some plastic shavings from installation but I always full flush, drain & sanitize new. After that I don't worry.

The Shurflo 255 strainer is readily available and only $10. I agree with Will in that I "shur" wouldn't let it stop me if I didn't have one, but if you wanted to get one it's really straight forward install.

I don't think they are really delicate, it surely wouldn't hurt to have a screen on the intake side. They are a lot like the pumps I use on my sprayers and I haven't ever had a problem with trash getting in them. And I know for a fact it has passed through the pump before because it sometimes clogs my spray tips after getting through the system. The sprayers Im referring to are for herbicides, ( spraying hay meadows) You can add the screen later when you get one. I wouldn't let it stop the show.
