"Sorry, we do not take those any longer..."

said the lady at a campground in VA near Washington DC. I said it is a new 2018 truck camper on a 2015 DRW F350 and she repeated that they only took camping trailers, 5th wheels and motor homes. First time ever I have run into this limitation. There was no option to leave it on the truck just like a motor home, just that they don't take them (TC) anymore.

Anyone else experienced this truck camper "discrimination"?

Yes, when you state a rule's reason, there are those who will argue it for eternity.

But, if you give no reason, there are those who will argue it for eternity.

Mom gets away with "because I said so" because she is Mom and you do what Mom says "or else". No one else has that sort of power -except Dad. Everyone else can be nagged at, argued with, pleaded with, etc., to be turned around.

In reality, public campgrounds can only exclude a type of RV for public safety reasons. They can't deny TCs because "they leave tons of stuff around their site", but they can deny soft-sided RVs because the bears in the area are known to rip through the canvas parts and tents.

One is denying for their own interests, the other is denying for the safety of the visitors. You can argue it, but public safety will win out and that is why there are normally far fewer bans against specific types of rigs in public campgrounds than there are in private parks. Because unless they can offer a public safety reason, a public campground denyibg TCs will create a huge negative publicity feed for the overseeing government. And governments aren't supposed to deny the public.

Naw, it's just that people lump all TCs together. The jack issue could be solved by just saying you canโ€™t unload.

I donโ€™t buy that a TC canโ€™t be moved either by a tractor either. If it is truly an โ€œemergencyโ€ who cares if it is damaged or not. More likely an imaginary event. :D. Again, Iโ€™m fine with excluding TCs if you want, but donโ€™t try to make up excuses. To me, itโ€™s like a friend who said the only real RVs were Class As.

As far as wind goes, my TC has ridden out 80 mph winds on the jack legs. 4000 lbs in a short length is very heavy compared to surface area. That includes virtually any travel trailer, for sure.

80 MPH winds did this to my camper in spring 2018 camper was as low as it could go still got blown over now I put it down on blocks so it is more stable

Obviously, you havenโ€™t seen a truck camper move on the jacks. Trust me, they can. If you have forks, you could easily lift it from underneath. Thatโ€™s the way they take them off trailers. Iโ€™m not sure why youโ€™d want to move one a couple hundred feet.

Giving a fake reason is no reason at all. Itโ€™s easy to point out why you were wrong. In that respect, your Mom was right. Donโ€™t make things up to try to justify a parkโ€™s reasoning just say there is no reason other than thatโ€™s what they want to do.

Full circle, there isnโ€™t a justification other than thatโ€™s what the park wants to do, but thatโ€™s ok.

Fishing Bridge doesn't allow soft-sided RVs due to bear activity.

Having seen that on the website and read about it at least 100 times over the years on boards, I often wonder the real reason. Bay Bridge Campground is less than 4 miles away as the crow flies, but it does not have bear activity? Possibly the Yellowstone Brownies don't have the free ranging habits of others in the tens of square miles.

I suspect it has more to do with the place being called "RV Park" and being operated by a Concessionaire.
Thank you for proving an important point. Giving the reason or explanation for any rule or policy is a fool's errand. It took exactly two posts from the time so one gave the published reasoning behind a policy before someone chimed in with their own conflicting theory. Mom actually had the best reason ever when questioning a rule. That answer was "Because I said so".

Could it have anything to do with TC's not having a VIN number?

I know I had issues with even getting a TC loan due to that, ended up buying mine outright and told them to pound sand.

Btw, hope you enjoyed the snow in DC!

Maybe washing your combo more often would help?
Maybe changing the attitude?

It would be hard to yank out my 5er. With auto self-leveling jacks and 4 slides, before moving, all that would need to be retracted. If the doors are locked, good luck moving it, unless you destroy the front door and destroy the bay hatch to reach the self-leveler controls!

Might damage the levelers but not likely much else just dragging it with forks (assuming they are set up with a hole to go over the pin.

Odds are the slides will survive fine.

I wonder how some people manage to get into such problems.
In the year of 2017 we spend about 130 nights at campgrounds all over the country and never even come close to such issue.
I started with 12 yo work truck and in February got new dually, but my TC was 16 years old, although I keep my toys clean.

There isn't anywhere to put a tent at Fishing Bridge any way, I don't think. It's a parking lot. I can't remember if Fishing Bridge has bear boxes for food or not, Bridge Bay, Canyon, and Grant Village do. Fwiw, I think they did you a favor if they didn't let you camp at Fishing Bridge and you got in somewhere else not aesticticly pleasing and the loudest in my experience.

I think many of us are just calling out fake excuses for what they are.

My guess is that it was an issue at one point and the rule has never been changed to account for current conditions.
