Has anyone seen the comparison on the dodge 1500 HEMI (with MDS) vrs the ram 2500 HEMI?

I have a 1500 and looking at trading in for a 2500 for a little more towing capacity.
Final notice from MasterCard. Good! I'm sick of hearing from them.

I have had a 1500 Hemi and a 2500 Hemi. I now have a 2500 6.7 Cummins. In my opinion the 5.7 Hemi is a little small for the 2500 platform. Empty it is fine but when you put a trailer behind it you will wish you had something bigger. I would buy the new 6.4 Hemi or go with the Cummins.

My 2014 hemi 2500 laramie weighs a hair under 7000# (3000# payload); my coworkers 2014 hemi 1500 Laramie with the exact same options (4x4, leather, crew cab, 6'4" box, sunroof, no air suspension on either one, etc) weighs 5700# (1100# payload)..

My previous 2010 F150 5.4L Crew 4WD weighed 5770 lbs (7200# GVWR, 1430# payload), my 2012 F150 5.0L Crew 4WD weighs 5768 lbs (7350# GVWR, 1582# payload), the 2014 F250 6.2L Crew 4WD 6.5' bed truck weighed 7167 lbs (10,000# GVWR, 2833# payload).

Looks as though the Ram should fair better mileage wise being especially if you can stick to a standard model other than the luxury Laramie edition. That 1100# payload is what I was seeing on floor models as well, up to about 1200#s. Not enough for my modest trailer and family, so a Ram 2500 would be needed.

After seeing this Ram link, don't go with a 5.7L, you only get a 9,000# GVWR. The 6.4L has a 10,000# GVWR as does the Diesel.

I don't know what payload stickers have to do with mileage but here's my 2 cents...

Not a Ram but I just went from an ecoboost to a 6.2 F250. Empty it's about 4-5mpg worse. Towing it's about equal to 1mpg worse(have only towed double so far though).

I reset trip B when I left the dealer 1930 miles ago and it shows 11.8mpg. This is a true mixed average with 275 of that towing double with my 5th and small boat. There's also 600 of that towing a small boat and the rest is a mix of highway/interstate/gravel/town. Cold starts, idling and all. Computer is right on the few times I calculated manually.

For reference, the average with my ecoboost under similar conditions last summer was 14.5mpg.

I suspect you would see very similar numbers. The difference in empty mileage is dramatic but when you factor in everything else, it's not as bad.

Weight has everything to do with mileage. I would suspect that the 2500 Ram and 1500 have a smaller weight gap than the F150 and F250. So 5.7L to 5.7L, hopefully wouldn't be as much of a drop in mileage as you've seen. That huge mileage drop in the F250 would make it impossible for me to drive the commute back and forth to work, without picking up another job. ๐Ÿ˜‰ It would be cheaper for me to buy a diesel.

What do you have, Crew Cab or Quad Cab, 4WD or 2WD, Truck Cap, Tonneau Cover, or open bed.

If you don't mind, what's you Tire Loading (tread act) sticker payload rating on your truck and GVWR. I previously considered a Ram until I seen a lower 6800 GVWR with individual truck payloads in the 1100 - 1200 lbs range. That wasn't enough to even tow my smaller 22.5' travel trailer of that time. Hoping their payload when up at least to 1500 - 1600 lbs to match Ford or Chevy trucks WITHOUT the Max towing packages (but with stanadard tow packages).

If not, I'll be like you, looking at a Ram 2500 in the future, in Crew Cab 4WD form with a 6.4L Hemi.

Not good advice to buy a diesel truck to save money. A diesel pickup costs more to buy, more to maintain, and a great deal more to repair.

A 2500/3500 class truck is heavy duty with emphasis on heavy. The more weight that you move down the road the more fuel that will be burned.

With trucks going from a 3.42 to a 3.73 set of gears will increase your truck's towing capacity by 25%. You get a 25% increase going from 3.73 to 4.10 gears. Or going from a 3.42 to a 4.10 will give you more than a 50% gain in towing capacity. Check with your VIN what gears are on your truck. A $400-$800 gear swap would be a better move.

I have a diesel 2500 truck and it is great for hauling and towing but it is not something I would want as my daily driver vehicle. Even with IFS it still rides like a "truck".

If you are moving up just go deisel and solve your problems. I went from a 09 ram 1500 quad cab hemi to an 06 ram 2500 mega cab 5.9 deisel and love the truck. JUST DO IT, lol you will not be disappointed.

Sorry!!! I should have been clearer.
I have a 2011 Ram 1500!(3.92). Looking at a ram 2010 2500 with HEMI (3.73).
I just trying to know how much more per month I can expect to pay on gas.

I believe you have the option of the 5.7 or the new 6.4 Make sure you are comparing both trucks with the same engine. The new 6.4 has around 45-50 more horse and a higher torque. From the posts I have read the new tranny acts as a brake somewhat going down hill. I would love one but it will have to wait for a while as long as my Dodge holds together.
