With all the vehicles that work with fobs and transmit an rf signal one might want to consider on of these.

http://www.select-fabricators.com/about-us/whats-new/announcements/wireless-key-rf-shielding-security/

I found this company when searching for an rf blocking pouch for my fob. the pouches come in 2 sizes. mine was 16.49 +tax

Yes it is a rolling code, and still has the strip. If you swipe it the register tells you to use the new method.

Depends on his card.. It may have RFID, a strip, or both for the time being since you don't change out every mag reader on the planet overnight. Some of the RFID type cards require a user PIN at the same time the card is being read. Others are a rolling code similar to the better garage door openers (way better, but they can be brute force opened as well). Nothing in the field is 100%

I still like the Smartphone verification that it's with the card idea. They are completely separate systems that verify each other only in the banks server and not in the field

Just got replacement Visa card with the chip instead of the strip a couple weeks ago.
But is it an RFID chip too?

The new tweak to this is that some banks are comparing where your smartphone is when pinged by their app. vs. the card just used. And they better be together.

Anyone know how they get into one who has lost a key ?

Can tow truck guys or lock Smith's make a new one ?

Then how much ?

Do they them have to make two...because the mate to the list one now is programmed out by the new fob ?

My auto club allows a Coyle if free keys...per some period...Think per year...Will my auto club pay for a replacement fob ?

There is SOME merit to this for the rental business, but these guys don't seem to understand how FOB's function or exactly how to pitch the product. The problem is that there are two FOBs with each car and they both are cabled together so they don't get separated when the car moves locations. If you lose one you lose both. The way to fix that is hide the second in the car, but now that FOB is constantly talking to the receiver and I'll bet the door can be unlocked just by grabbing it.

This problem can be fixed for $.03 worth of aluminum foil wrapped around a spare FOB and hidden on the car, and way better isolated than this bag.

PS- I'm gold and executive level at 3 of the largest companies and have never seen anything like this, so not sure who these rental agencies are?

Yes, I run LookOut on my Android.

The thread referenced above was from member MadNorsky who found that keeping his fob on the nightstand of his truck camper was close enough to allow the vehicle to be unlocked and started. Maybe not applicable to all but not "tinfoil hat" either....

Here is a discussion about keyless entry and starting in the TV forum

The only time I might consider something like that is for your passport and for credit cards if they are the type that allow you to wave them over the cc reader. Passports have a lot of sensitive info and are designed to be read remotely. Security specialists were very critical of the design when they came out several years ago.

What a crock. I rent from rental car agencies 3-4 times a month and have never once seen these pouches. Should work as good as a tinfoil hat.

My keyless entry fob is strictly one way communication. I'm pretty sure it can't receive signals, instructions or programming... Skynet is going to have to find another foothold to take over the world.
