Scissor steps

I have a set of scissor steps that as of now I remove before I travel and store inside. Not a huge deal but for storage reasons I think it would be nice to have them permanently mounted. My question is will they travel this way with out them falling down or more importantly will they cause damage to the camper structure as they bounce going down the road. I was concerned that the mounting screws would pull out of the frame. I was even thinking about using a nylon strap with the plastic clips kind of like on a book bag to secure or wrap around them during transit. Thanks for the help.

I described how I attached mine in this link. Loosing them is one concern, but the main reason in my opinion to attach them permanently is the speed and convenience of entry to the camper. Having to drag out and attach stairs adds a significant disincentive to climb in for that roadside beer or whatever. Also, if they are bolted on at the top rather than hung on the silly brackets, most of the complaints about how wobbly scissors stairs are go away.

Jefe4X4 wrote about losing his steps and never found them. But he got another set. You might try to see if he has any thoughts on this subject.

My Torklift Glow Steps are mounted to the rear bumper. When I travel, I fold them up and secure them with the locking bar that comes on the Glow Steps. I leave them hang off the rear bumper and never had an issue. When I need to deploy them I just unhook the locking bar and fold out the steps. Its a very easy and convenient process.

I bungee my Glow Steps to my ball hitch, when were traveling/ camping. The hitch extension I have puts the trailer ball right under the attaching point of the steps to the camper’s bumper.

Also being a Lance815 owner the floor is 2 inches thick and when I use to have scissor steps the mounting fixture was bolted through the floor. Got rid of them years ago after they twist while my wife was climbing them, she near fell off of them . I have found that a simple fold out step ladder works best for this model of Lance. I simplity strap the step ladder to the roof access ladder, it's out of the way and causes no damage to the camper.
