We want to ship a pick-up truck from the Boston area to Florida - we don't want to hire a driver, we want a trucker to pick it up and drop it in Jacksonville.

That's all we want, we don't want to rent a trailer, or any other way. Just truck it south so we don't have to fly up and drive it ourselves.

Does anyone know how to get this done - we've tried several "middle men" companies - they charge a fee and find a trucker.

NO luck so far - but we don't know if we're doing this the best way. Anyone have advice here ...

Last fall I used uShip to find a hauler for my newly purchased Burb from San Antonio, TX to Grand Rapids, MI. Very easy to work with. I didn't use uShip's low bid feature, I just compared their listed rates and reviews for the different trucking dispatchers and picked one(Montway Auto Transport). They contacted the trucking firm(D-Bar-D) to set it up. I was emailed with the trucker's info(Phil Yoder). I called Phil to check his schedule and 2 days later it was delivered to my driveway. Total cost $930(less $ than taking off work, flying out, and driving back). Phil kept me informed throughout and I highly recommend anyone to use D-Bar-D. What a great experience.

Thanks - we're following up on all of these ... nothing yet, but keep at it.

The train only runs from DC to Florida - and you drive it there, and ride on the train with it. We need from the Cape Cod or Boston or RI area ... continuing the search -

If you find someone private to do it please PM me. I'm trying to get my SUV out of Wisconsin and down to Florida. Maybe a double pick up might be worth more to someone to make the trip. Tks.

So, you want to pay to ship your SUV to Mass and then to Florida. Why?

Rock, contact Mary Anno @ (866) 566-5227 ext 2542. She is the contact at TNT Transport Services and they operate coast to coast. They are NOT a broker, but the actual company that does the transport. We used them to bring our 56 Plymouth from FL to ID and was very pleased with their service.

Shipping by train is another option. I haven't done it but have read about it being a little cheaper. You take it to a terminal and pick it up at a terminal at the other end.

Call John Crafts @ 207-353-4361 in Lisbon Falls Me. He has auto haulers and delivers private cars from NE to FL, where he buys his autos at auction and ships them back to his lot. Another is B & D Shipping @ 606-802-0833, from Brooksville FL. I also have another company I have used, but they are not cheap and I don't know if they operate on the east coast. The 1st two I have used and have been very satisfied with them.

If you have a dealership in town that you frequent for repairs or oil changes go there and ask them for the name of their car hikers. They usually have a couple of husband wife teams that move their cars around from dealership to dealership and long distance. Most of them will be more than willing to do the job for you. They are bonded and insured.

I've used them a couple of times and they are very reasonably priced.

I did this when I bought our 2008 F250 new. I bought it from a dealer in Houston TX and we lived in Savannah GA. The dealer sent paperwork via DHL, I returned with a cheque and we went on camping for 4 days. The day after we got back, the truck was delivered.

The dealer set up the shipping for us, added $500 to the price ($36,500 total for new F250 Diesel CC King Ranch). The best car buying experience in my life. I wish I still had the carrier information, but sadly I don't. Many dealers have a list of transport companies. If you don't have to have an enclosed trailer, you can get it quite a bit cheaper.
