Sick to my stomach!

Took my camper this morning to the dealer for repair of the slide out and while parking it, I caught the bumper of another camper and creased a 1 ft. section of the aluminum siding on mine. No damage to the bumper of the other camper but I sure feel sick to my stomach for making such a boneheaded mistake. Now I have to wait for the estimate of repair before deciding if I will file an insurance claim or pay out of pocket. The idiot of the day award goes to me!

Don't feel so bad, reading about a guy who put DEF (diesel emission fluid) in the fuel tank and not the DEF tank. Truck only has 7k miles. He drove it and got it in the engine. Its a mess, I mean to the tune of over 15k maybe much more. He said he was sick to his stomach.

I put a small scrape on my trailer , covered it with a bumper sticker . They are only new the first day you buy it .

Oh I did that with the fridge. Told DW I left the gas on so we could unload the fridge the next weekend. I must have turned only one tank on. It went empty and the other was off. Horrible smell. Not much lovin' either lol!

As you can see you is not alone. I'm 70 and still doing that kind of stuff, seems like I should have figured it out by now.

My dumb move: Bought a new TT in Las Vegas, towed to a paved casino campground to try it out on a nice clear, calm sunny day. Put the awning out (kind of a necessity in Las Vegas to reduce sun stroke), couldn't stake it down on the asphalt, but was no wind so didn't worry. Headed into the casino for dinner (we don't gamble). Came out and awning was on top of trailer. A rogue wind had come along and flipped it up and over. Didn't damage much and was able to fix it myself. DW wasn't pleased. Then there was the time in Las Vegas where we stored the trailer for a month and forgot to unload the fridge.

Feel your pain, OP. Had mine less then a month. Probably the second camping trip, but the first one with the brand new electric jack I had just installed. Going to leave, used it to crank up the WD bars. Set the tongue back down, but barely off the ground, and finished putting on the sway bar. Pulled out. Wondered what that scraping sound was. Looked back, didn't see anything. Kept going. Thankfully, the campground maintenance guy caught up to us in the golf cart. Bent the jack (still works, though). Thankfully, they didn't charge us for the gash in the small asphalt curb I hit.

I've also forgotten to lock the coupler on a utility trailer. Safety chains work.
I'm done. This isn't a place to be helpful. It's a place where curmudgeons with a superiority complex will nit pick everything. If you want help, go elsewhere. Admin, delete my account please.

Last year I was pulling into my driveway with our new-to-us TT, we had just picked it up. My in-laws were sitting in the driveway waiting to see our new TT. So, instead of being careful when making the turn I was waving and yelling to them about our new purchase.
I took the turn a "little" to tight and hit a branch sticking out.
Put a small crease into the side of the TT and broke a window.
Luckily our windows are all dark tinted, so a 1/4" thick plastic panel
painted gloss black did the trick, from the outside you can't tell its not glass. DW was, shall we say, slightly upset?
I had even trimmed back that tree before I left.
About 5 mins. after I parked the TT half the tree was gone. That's not going to happen again.

Since we're all confessing our sins here.....I had a 29' Keystone TT and was searching for a station that sold diesel. It was raining hard and I had an abscessed tooth and in misery. I pulled into the station and didn't see a section of guardrail sticking out. Raked the right side of my trailer (the aluminum part) to the tune of $1200. OP, I ended up doing the same thing, paid it myself instead of having my rates go up.

Gdetrailer you nailed it. Estimate came in today $701.63 Since I have a $500 deductible, I will be paying for the repair myself. I can't see filing a claim for $201 and then seeing my premium go up.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully turns out okay. If it had been fiberglass and not aluminum, could have have a lot worse.

Were at a Thousand Trails last year that was quite overgrown, I backed the truck up against a large overhanging limb with the canopy lid up. The glass exploded into a million pieces. $600 for a new one. DW not happy. 😞 This year and for evermore, I have vowed to be more vigilant (or else).

A few years ago I was at a local dealer. The lot had a few new TTs awaiting PDI for the new owners. Some dude came screaming into the lot with an SUV and pop-up in tow. He did a fast 180 around one of the brand spanking new TTs in the center of the lot and whacked the corner of it doing some not so insignificant damage. The driver was in a state of shock. :E What a doehead. I always wondered what the dealer did - do a quickie and cheap patchup or return it to original condition?

I tried to uproot a palm tree at Fort Desoto campground with the top right corner of our 5th wheel last year. It happens.

Been there done that, once pulling out of my home spot clipped a pole and tore off my awning in the front, oh well I guess I didn't need that just use an easy up, then sold the trailer and have a newer one and watch that pole much closer now.

I was in a campground and watched a young guy (30s) tear the Fantastic Fan off the brand new trailer he'd borrowed from his dad so he could lower a kid inside and have them unlock the door, as his toddler was asleep inside and he'd locked himself out. He was panicked to get inside before his wife came with the gals from sightseeing. I mean, he was truly in a panic. I suggested it would take a locksmith about 10 minutes to get there and he said no way.

After destroying the fan and getting it all unlocked, he then drove his dad's nice borrowed truck into some big rocks that lined the campground, putting a big dent in the front.

As he drove away, he told me out his pickup window that he was going back to tent camping. LOL
