Super Cab vs Crew Cab

We went to the car show and realized that CC offers insane amount of rear space (we are both very short), probably wasting payload capacity. How much room does Super Cabs have? In the pictures, they look tiny but can adults sit behind you if a 5'5" person is driving in front?

I'll probably visit a dealer as well. Hopefully they have one in stock.

It is just the DW and I now as our 2 sons are grown an out on their own. We started with a 1975 Ford F350 SC then 1989 Chevy K3500 CC dually and now a 2010 Ram 3500 megacab. The rear seat reclines and I could ride back there all day with no problems and I am 6 ft. We are now maxxed out cab wise so this has to be our last truck lol. It is nice to know we can invite 4 people with us by folding up the back seat and front center seat/armrest.

I loved my SC in the Ford and would have chosen one again in the Ram if it was offered. We rarely carry passengers other than kenneled animals. We can fill that space up with extra things we bring along, but we don't need it.

Not only is resale higher on a CC, but the market is much bigger as well.

In my mind, a crew cab is just overall more practical of a truck, but admittedly parking is a bit more difficult.

Buy what you want, but I would never go back to a truck that isn't a CC.

My 2004 SuperCab has plenty of room in the back seat. If you look at the specs. There is actually very little difference in head room, and leg room between the two. Only a inch or tow. However, as mentioned. Access in a parking lot is hard to deal with. often I back it out of a space before we load any thing in the back seat, including people.

As for length. "Most" Crew Cabs have a shorter bed. So the length is about the same.

I have had many sc trucks and in 2005 a ford cc 2500. Now I drive a extended cab long box. It works for us very well. If I buy another new truck I don't know which way I will go. For me I like the door configuration of a extended cab better for just the two of us. Our six kids are all way grown but now there are six grand kids and more coming. So maybe a Crew Cab is in our future. But not for sure. Its really all about what a individual needs.

We have had 4 SC trucks over the years, 2 GM's and 2 Fords. Some were interesting to get in/out of the back. But we rarely have passengers and our pet was a cat so we had plenty of room for whatever we put in the back. And since I want an 8' bed having the shorter cab is a plus as we double tow so a shorter truck is a must. I may replace the present truck this year and will still only consider a SC.
And I also don't worry about resale value as I buy a vehicle for me, not the next owner. And keep them at least 10 years so resale is minimal.

Well I think thats kind of a wash , they are less expensive, about $2,000 (Canada) in the first place and if you are financing it then there is also the interest on the added expense to consider.

I knew going in, with the SC, that it would be harder to sell, or maybe get less trade. I am more concerned about getting the truck I want, not buying a truck the next owner will want. My dealer treats me good when I trade, this was my 9th new vehicle from him, and now his Son.

Another thing I like, it's easier to see my FW hitch, when backing to connect, due to the rear window being closer.

Also keep in mind access to that rear seat/space. I had a 1999 F-150 Supercab with rear suicide doors. They were a bit of a pain having to open the front doors first. Today's side impact requirements means extended cab pickups need a solid B-Pilar, making the rear doors quite small. If it a problem for people getting in and out? Is it a problem for you putting things in and out?

Yeah that can be something that you might have to get used to, but with the opposing doors all open there can actually be more room. Sorry, I probably sound like I am defending a super-cab but it does have some advantages too that are sometimes overlooked.

I have a Chevy Ext cab, I like the truck but if I had it to do all over again I would have gone with the crew cab. Exactly what Fordlover said about entering and exiting.

Yep, supercab popularity has decreased significantly when crewcabs went mainstream.
Comfort is one thing, access is another.

If you park in a parking lot, next to other vehicles, and have someone in the back seat, it is an exercise to get in and out. Hard to understand until you try it.
I'll give it a shot:
Driver gets out, then opens the back door, rear passenger gets out. Now you have two people (or three!), that are trapped in between two open doors. Both people must now move into the area of the open front door, crowding together. Then the back door is closed, now both people must move out of the swing area of the front door, so the front door can be closed. Then you hear the benny hill song playing... Oh, and you do the whole thing again when it's time to load up.

It's just the 2 of us and I love my Crew Cab with 4 real doors and 2 bench seats. The back seat flips up, providing lots of space on the floor. We wanted a truck that would accomidate any situation, including seating capacity. Now, we keep a baby-child car seat in the back seat for our grandson who is living with us now (and his daddy). So the full seating capacity is VERY nice when we're all 4 together! I guess I just like space.

We thought of every possible scenario we could think of before we purchased our first Crew Cab truck. And we've never been disappointed having "too much" truck! We've used every feature in every truck we've owned! No regrets!
