Tank Sensor theory (poll)

It seems that most here have issues with their tank sensors being unreliable.
My experience has been quite the opposite. I have rarely had a problem.
Most all of my trips have me towing home to dump, at least 150 miles, with some bumpy dirt roads at the start.
I think that the agitation stirs things up, dissolving the TP so that it can't foul the sensors.
The few times I have had a false reading was when I had a rare short tow home. (20-25 miles)

I get the impression from reading here that most use the dump station at the campground.

I would like to hear mainly from those without sensor problems, just what you are doing? I will of course assume that everyone is using TP that will dissolve when swished around in water.

My recently purchased used 2012 TT sensor panel didn't work correctly. I took the underbelly off to check other things and looked at the sensor wires. Several of them were loose to the point of almost falling off. Tightened up and now work. I will still do extra flushes on the black tank.

3 different trailers over 10 years and I've never had sensor problems. They are always accurate and read correctly on all tanks. I always dump before traveling home. Maybe I'm just lucky? I'll take it though!

Nothing special .... now.

I installed Horst probes in both tanks, get full hookups most times, back flush while breaking camp (so this happens maybe 3 - 4 times because I am like that), and I have no problems with sensor readings.

Our previous RV the tank sensors never worked, they were the internal sensors of old. 4 years now with the new RV with external sensors and no problems at all. I do and always have dumped at the campground on leaving, add about a 1/3 black tank of water. Then dumped again when we get home.

I don't know if Mine are accurate or not. I just use the burp theory of tank fullness measurement.

Oh, with gray, I always dump before showers anyhow.

Thanks!

So. My camper is brand new... The grey seems to be fairly accurate. I've never seen my black tank say anything except empty. Even when I on purpose try to fill it - it always shows empty. I'm thinking its not hooked up to anything and I'm wondering based on everything I've read online here if I should even bother with it. I'm not gonna till I'm done camping for the season at any rate.

My sensor always worked and gave me accurate readings. This is in my fresh water tank. Never worked for more that two dumps in the black tank. About one or two more times in the grey tanks. I don't know why they even put them in these things.

I have a dump at home and before I park it for the summer, (Phoenix) I dump & flush the tanks. On the last monthly maintenance run, the black tank showed 1/3 full. Unless I have a bunch of meeses using the pot, I'm inclined to ignore the sensor. I usually dump on an "It's about time" schedule. When we do use the toy hauler it's off road and gets really "all shook up". I will admit, before I wised up to the reliability of the tank sensors, when camping with the family and the black tank light showed full it got a bit worrisome. I thought I had miscalculated. I did all the water softener/soap theories but I didn't see it as a remedy. The best sensor is to shut off the pump, open the flush valve in the pot and take a peek.. IMO ....

The ones in my 94 still work and seem relatively accurate. Close enough to see what's going on.

Useless. Worked when new. Even after using the black flush for 15 min it reads 1/3 full. BTW were seasonal.

Maybe it's really your sensor that's malfunctioning. All the rest of us seem to have the same quality of service. That's it....yours is broken!

Ours worked for years, we always emptied at the park. Now it is hit and miss. I think I cursed ours by mentioning that it always worked.
