Tire chains needed?

My 16 Ram has new Open Range tires coupled with 4wd. The NL is not the heaviest, but fully loaded I'm around 12k. If I head over certain passes in the right months I am required to carry chains (over 10k in CA as I recall). I dont think I really need them and would be unlikely to push it if the weather was actually bad. That said, I need to carry something to be legal. Any recommendations on something that would be small storage but effective when installed? Ideally something quicker to install would be better since I dont expect to use them regularly enough to get practice. It hasn't snowed in NW WA yet so prices haven't spiked. Would like to get before they do or find a sale if there is such a thing.

EDIT: tires are 295/70R18 if it matters

I didn't. :B

And your example is why I bought the V-bar chains and not a pair of slippers like those Autosocks. 😉

"Hopefully" I'll never take them out of the bag.

They just don't look like anything I would be interested in.

I might just not be open to new ideas.

I just ordered a set of these V-bar chains that I doubt I will ever use.

If I ever do need them I'll be in some pretty nasty stuff so I'd rather have a set if nice good old fashion tire chains.

Never say never..I was hunting way back on the Magruder road/trail,a corridor between the Frank Church and Selway wildernesses in Idaho,in my new 2008 Ford 4X4..It started snowing hard, so knowing that road we turned around immediately..Everything was fine in 4X4 until we reached the summit of just one of the grades..It was so slick I had a hard time keeping the 4X4 on the very narrow trail/road..

I put the V-Bar chains on the rear for going down the incline and everything was fine..I doubt we would have made it back down that trail/road without damaging my new truck without the chains..Snow on top of ice isn't the best platform for a pickup..

I am very glad I had those chains in my 4X4 pickup...My opinion on chains is,get the heaviest duty V-Bar chains that fit..

Wouldn't that be NY lately?
Than they make it to Rome as well.
Sure the trends change every year, but historically speaking, there is not much competition.

Yeah, too many European tourists in rented RVs.
San Francisco is the 2nd most popular destination in the World.
Not too many Americans can name the 1st?

Last time I check, those chains are not legal in CA, so if you go this way, you might need to buy 2nd set.

Bottom line, if you have a 4x4 with the right tires, there's about a 0.01% chance of actually needing them on any maintained roads or highways.

I seriously doubt that mine will ever come out of the bag they get shipped in.

I've jut always has a set for my trucks and I don't have a set for this one so I figured why not?

Kind of like having a fire extinguisher or carrying a gun.

Autosocks are for ice/slick not deep snow. Chains are made for diggin deep.
