Torklift StableLoads deception

I have purchased and use Torklift tie-downs and Fastguns on my camper and they perform well though I did have to make some modifications with a cutting saw and grinder to get them to fit on my 2011 truck. As a result I continue to get promo offers from the company including one today for their Stableloads.

I took a look to see what their pitch was and found that they provided a summary chart comparing their Stableloads to air bags, new shocks, and an anti-sway bar. They somehow managed to omit the one true alternative to Stableloads which is adding more load capacity with more leaf springs as with the SuperSprings products.

The Stabiloads do reduce motion by restricting the range of motion of the leaf springs on a truck but they do nothing to safely increase the actual load capacity of the truck which requires adding more support. Only Supersprings or air bags provide additional load support.

Only Supersprings or adding leaf springs results in additional load carrying capacity that need never be adjusted or repaired for the life of the truck. Anytime a solution is accompanied by a new point of failure or interferes with the factory engineering of the suspension I have learned from experience to avoid it and find another one.

Wintersun,

I am not trying to pick a fight here so please read this as just a question.

But, you started this thread and that is fine, but in the past if anyone asks about air bags, stableloads or any other suspension aids you always come in promoting Supersprings. Do you have some kind of connection to Supersprings that you cannot help yourself from promoting?

Saying you like your Supersprings in your application is one thing but starting a new thread to bash a company that many people find quite good is a little suspect.

maxum, not so sure this Guy actually owns any camper/truck, etc.

He (she?) is somewhat of a mystery troll.
Posts under 3 different user names (elkhornsun/wintersun/redsky) and has NEVER posted a pic of their rig on various forums. This is very unusual-(we all like to show off our rigs!).
No one has ever mentioned meeting this person at a rally or on the road, you can't travel far in this country without running in to someone else with a TC?!

Whoever it is comes on once in a while, makes some inflammatory posts, and then disappears again.

Very strange...

In any case...no need to feed the troll/salesman/dreamer.

It was quite strange for me reading this post. Just yesterday going through some posts on another forum I thought there was one member that had a VERY similar opinion to Wintersun. Same game plan. Wait for the opportunity and praise Supersprings like they were the only acceptable suspension mod on earth. What's funny is that the members user name was one of your suggestions as a possible alternate name for Wintersun.

This looks like fun! I will give it a try.
Legally? well my dodge door sticker says 12,200 but I can't pay for the 200 lbs and thus my registration is for 12k. I'm pretty sure if the next time I get tabs I ask to bump it to 14k they would be like, hell yeah, that 15 bucks more please and if i got inspected and scaled no ticket would be given if under 14k and over 12,200.

Let's face it, they don't care about your safety, they care about money.

Why I use StableLoads

1. Overload springs do not engage until the truck bed squats to a ridiculously low height pitching the nose of the truck pointing upwards.

2. Without engaging the bump stops, the overload spring(s) never carry any of the load.

3. Overload springs are stiffer than the 'regular' springs. Less side to side roll, etc.

4. I do not need to add capacity by adding more springs

5. I am a TorkLift junky. ๐Ÿ™‚

I do not have any Torklift products, although I have camped next door to campers that do. I do agree with 1 through 4, really see no reason lots of folks are no in agreement with 5.

Boatycall, I can't say I really have any interest, and see no point, in going any further on this subject. As most of us know, the laws are not the same in every state. That suggest to me, we would have to argue this point one state at a time.

For whatever it is worth, at one time in California the license fees for pickup trucks was based on weight, if the vehicle weighed over 5000 pounds(as I recall). Years ago, I got busted for having a flatbed registered as a pickup, and had to have the truck weighed. When I brought my current truck into Calif (about 2001), I had to have it weighed for licensing. I do not know the current laws. I do know, I had the typical commercial license, then got the Handicap license. My fees were $298 per year, and dropped to $93 per year and it is still a commercial truck. I see no place where weight entered into it.

I guess I am missing something. Does the door sticker say "recommended" or "limited to by law"?

I question the statement "LEGALLY nothing increases your load capacity." What law establishes legal your payload?

Based on the stated "legal", I have to agree with 6Fargo. "In fact if you fit the cab from a F250 on the chassis of an F750, the previous capacities of the F750 are now reduced to the door sticker of the F250 cab."

I get so disappointed reading these threads by arm chair experts that best leave this subject alone. I am embarrassed by some of the posts, especially those that state "legally".

I offer this challenge. When making statements as to the purpose of the door stickers, and or the load capacity of a given truck, include your source of information. I suggest you post the law, by including the legal source, such as Vehicle Code. If you cannot do this, please start you expert information with "Once upon a time, the law says ..."

If my post offends someone, it is not my intent. It is so unfair to spread misinformation, therefore I ask for a supporting source of information on this subject.

It's all good, no offence taken, a healthy debate is why forums exist.

Your 'door tag' is also one of many places where your VIN is. Your DOT legally registered weight is on your registration, here in WA we even pay tax based on the weight.

Lets revisit your "change the sticker/cab scenario" -- I would offer a counter challenge - You change the cab of a 2001 F350 for the cab of a wrecked 2015 F350 - do you now own a 2015? Show me where that will legally happen...It's the same thing. You're trying to make your truck something it isn't by simply changing the tag.

No one can just "change the door sticker" and whola, have themselves a new 2015 rig. In so much as they can change the cab and WHOLA, the DOT will recognize you have the weight class of an F750. Your registration and title will still bear the marks of your frame and VIN.

So back to my counter challenge - show me were you CAN do that legally. And how do you change the VIN on the frame so it matches your new cab? Or do you just run around with 2 VINs and registrations?

So to be clear - I can stick this sticker on my door I just simply googled off the internet, and I now have an '05 with an 11k-Lb weight rating?

It does get old...I thought it was just me but seems at every turn...

It is one thing to repeatedly interject your opinion on what some one should do or what they should use, Even when the topic is about something else. Starting a new thread with the title as you have, and your conclusions (on a product you have not used) has no value and less point other than stirring the pot- which is the only thing I draw from your post. Why?

It IS good to hear the opinions on products, helps everyone, but
I am not seeing the positive aspect of this- at all.

'course probably a deficiency on my part. Sometimes things just strike me odd and regretfully make some off hand comment in my responses, and I try (& fail). It seems though reading many of your posts you dont, or do not realize there is someone at the other end of the spectrum with your blanket comments. ?

On the topic of the Stable loads... they worked like a charm in my application and I would recommend them to anyone.
