Tornado

If done a couple searches and cannot find any info on a trailer being a total loss. My TT got picked up by a tornado and flipped on it's back. No one was in it, thank goodness. Insurance adjuster stopped today and it's a total loss. What do I need to be aware of when dealing with the insurance company? Trailer was a 2014 Salem Hemisphere Lite, 312QBUD.

Thanks for any guidance.

Progressive has a nice RV package that gives you your initial TT cost plus Feds and taxes if it's totaled in the first 10 years. Also has travel protection and trip interruption and TT towing. I pay $325 a year for a 2015 TT.

Does "full replacement" mean what you paid or what a new one costs today? I would imagine a new one would be more than you paid.

State Farm may just have many more claims to process than your insurance company does.

Great news! Glad to hear it. Sorry you have to deal with it all but, as you know, it could have been much, much worse. Have fun shopping!

Turns out I had full replacement coverage. Looked through my policy and didn't see it, but they say I have it. Not losing a dime on it. Thanks again for the help. Time to shop for another one!!

By the way, Allied/Nationwide is who I had the coverage with and they have been wonderful to work with. Adjuster on site within a couple days, great communication with corporate adjuster and Loss Division called as soon as my claim was sent over to them. Would highly recommend. BIL's home and barns got hit during the storm two weeks ago Monday. State Farm Insurance still has not had an adjuster out to look at the property of someone who has been with them for 25 years.

Thanks everyone for the help. Adjuster was out Saturday and videoed all the damage. Told us it was totaled. Should hear something today. He said they would want my purchase paperwork and I balked at that. I really don't think it's their business what I paid for it. I found the original spec sheet (window sticker) with all the optional equipment and it's pricing. It also included base price and suggested retail, which we didn't pay close to either. This is the only documentation I'm going to provide as far as paperwork with pricing. We had over $4000 in options on this trailer.

Totaled our Keystone High Country a year ago on South I-75. AAA insurance gave us book value. But they wouldn't give us the 6% sales tax or $200 license fee we paid just 8 months before.
Seems in Michigan we pay $200 license fee that's good forever but only for that particular trailer (non-transferable)...

First thing to do is Document Document Document...

Take pictures of everything inside, outside anywhere. Note all contents completely. Any before pictures you might have, include those too. Record all dates and times of occurrences however minor. If financed, have all financial records up to date. If paid for, dig out all your receipts, including any upgrades you've done. Document every phone call and conversation you have with anyone. Also, if it was in a storage yard, document that location and obtain insurance info from the proprietor even though he'll tell you he's not responsible. Do your OWN research and determine VALUE yourself. This will give you some negotiation material if everything goes south in dealing with the insurance company...we road out a tornado in Matagorda Bay Texas two years ago and our insurance company was easy to deal with.....good luck...Dennis

Check your policy. Mine was full original retail for the first five years.

Unless you have replacement cost insurance they will give you book value minus deductible. Glad no one was hurt.

Check your policy. Most likely they'll give you book value unless you can prove extra value. At least that's my assumption. Insurance companies rarely lose; hopefully you'll at least break even. Were you in woodhaven? So sorry for your troubles. Best of luck!

Not in Woodhaven. They got smacked pretty hard. Camper was at in-laws in Coal City. We live outside town and it missed us by a 1/4 mile. Our family farms took a direct hit though.
