How many miles do you have on your Cummins? I would bet it has a lot of life left in it, and it will fetch top dollar if you decide to sell it.

I would suggest that you have a look at a 2013 or newer Ram 3500 with a Cummins. You will be VERY surprised how much more refined they are than your 2006, much quieter, and much more pulling power. They will also get close to the fuel economy your 2006 does.

There have been several members here who have gone to gas and are back to diesel within a couple of years because they simply do not have the pulling power that one becomes used to with a diesel and use MUCH more fuel doing so. Running 3,500 plus RPM's up every grade becomes old quickly too. JMHO.

Depreciation is similar to death and taxes in that it is inevitable. The last vehicle I financed was a new '88 Silverado. After three years, it was paid off. But then I just kept making payments to MYSELF into a vehicle savings account. After three more years, I had enough to pay cash for a new '94 Silverado. I kept that one for 7 years, and kept making payments to MYSELF, so I had enough to pay for the new '01 F150. I was planning to keep it for 6 years. It was a great truck, so I kept that one for 12 years. After those 144 payments to myself, I had enough to pay for the new '13 F150 and a used toy hauler camper to go with it. There are 6 motorcycles bought since '98 to put in the toy hauler, with not a penny of interest paid on any of them. I did finance the 2013 truck to get a $1500 discount on the purchase price, but paid it off when the first monthly payment came due.

This truck may last until I am too old to ride dirt bikes and wrestle the toy hauler around. The next vehicle will likely be a car, or a rocking chair. I'm still making payments to myself, looking at entrance to the assisted living facility in 15-20 years. Good luck financing that when your time comes. Not going to happen. They won't give you 20 years to pay for 10 years of living.

Debt is insidious. Kick it to the curb.

Amazing how many people don't have the $ to make payments to themselves, but can't pull together the scratch to make payments on everything from cars to couches!

Sorry about that. Having a '99 diesel I understand the appeal to a new rig and even downsizing to a 3/4 gasser to shave $$ off the cost and to help in maneuverability and non-towing use. They are quieter, seem to having the capability, and wont have the maintenance needs (shouldn't at least).

If the F250 has the Camper Package, it will have the F350 SRW suspension. Make sure you do not get the standard lower rated 17" wheels. Having a F250 with 18" wheels and camper pkg is like having an unpapered F350 (everything is there but the rating sticker that says so).

I think the gasser will be working pretty hard if you hit the Rockies due to the elevation, but otherwise you should be fine (other than RPM noise and lower mileage).

Yes this is a 5.9 cummins;I am just thinking about trading to a newer truck and am seeking opinions on the ford f250;I believe the gvwr on the fiver is 14000LB;but the dry wt is close er to 9000lb;adding the air cond and other essentials,I will be pulling close to 11000;with a pin wt of 2000lb;hope this gives you a better perspective;;;;

It won't pull like the Cummins, but I don't see any reason you couldn't pull an 11k lb fifth wheel just fine with a 6.2 F250.

Why would you down from a 1-ton to a 3/4 ton gasser? Does the CTD signify a diesel? If so, who go from a diesel to a gasser, unless you are dropping way down with regards to your travel trailer.

NOT enough truck!!! Even a 350 will need air bags. A 3500 SRW RAM with factory air ride and Aisin trans will be the best bet for that RV.

or you could just buy any brand that has the proper rating to tow that trailer.

Well the standard Triton engine is a 5.4 correct? Keep the 2006 CTD!
You don't need a dually to carry/tow a 14,000# GVWR 5er a 350/3500 SWRmwill do just fine.
Depending on the dry weight of the 5er I would carry/pull with my Ram 2500, it may have a high cargo capacity!

The 5.4 is just not enough engine to pull that much weight!

What is your reason to dump the 2006 Ram CTD, 2nd best year to own! Only the early 2007 non EPA is a better TV, well there are the post 2013 Rams!:B

I think he means a 6.2L if it's a 2015. The 5.4 has been retired for quite some time. An F250 supercab with a 6.2L in that year with 4.30 gears could potentially tow 15,100 lbs if he could make the cargo capacity work. On a SRW F250, that would be quite a challenge. I wouldn't do it. That's diesel territory.
