Tow Vehicle Tire Question

I have a 2005 Dodge 2500 Diesel 2x4 quad cab.

I pull a bumper hitch trailer, Jayco 27 ft.

I have started looking for a set of new tires for the truck.

Current tires: Michelin 265/70/17 load range E

My local tire dealer sells Cooper tires, I bought a set for my Toyota van and they ride and drive fine.

So I was looking at a set of Cooper H/T 265/70/17 load range E
$188 ea.

But the tire dealer recommended the following tire, said he had good luck with them:
Firestone TransForce H/T $205 ea.

Have any of you guys had experience with these tires.

If so, can you give me the good, bad and ugly on these brands.

in my small town, if you go for other brands, you have to travel and I rather deal with the home town boys, if I can.

I bought my 2004 F250 CC used which came with Firestone HT's and I replaced them with the same as I like the tire and I would by another set next time I need tires.

Today I was at SAMs Club. The tire you mentioned cost $1095 installed out the door. $70 rebate.

I paid $1,408 inc tax for 6.

Have you asked the local dealer if they sell take offs? When dealers swap out wheels/tires on new trucks they usually sell the new/old set cheap. Sometimes the tire dealer keeps the take offs per the contract and then sell them.

My '03 2500 Dodge/Cummins came with the same size LTX AS Michelins as yours. Ran them for 115k miles.
They had poor traction on wet pavement or green grass so I went with the Bridgestone Revo AT. Ran them for 80k miles and now on the second set of Revos.

I have a set of Firestone Transforce 16" E on a 16k stock trailer. Great tire.

My neighbor has a 3500 CC Dodge in commercial service and she runs all Firestone Transforce on her trucks and GN trailers.

I used Cooper LTs years ago. No issues with them.

Just installed a set of Cooper Discover AT/3 on our TV. Don't ride as smooth as the previous Goodyear Silent Armors, but needed tires before a trip and couldn't get the GYs. We'll see how the Coopers wear.

I have Firestone on my TV. 40k miles and might get another 5k. Back tires are slick & front better. I will probably go with Michelin 265/70/17 load range E. $1095.

I ran Cooper Discover HT on my last F 150 and they were the smoothest truck tire I ever used. Had about average durability but.....no nationwide warranty on those tires. Good warranty from the DEALER on them but Cooper does not carry a nationwide warranty. It effected me when I cut one rear tire on the truck nearly in half from road debris while traveling on I-95. When you cut them in half they DO go down quickly 🙂

Good luck / Skip

45,
the mich were almost new when I got the truck at 42K
now it has 72K and I have another 5K left in them.

so I going to say 35K to maybe 40K, if I push it.

my last set of mich tires on the truck I traded in, the tires had plenty of tread, but were cracked so bad on the side that I was afraid to drive on them pulling the trailer.
so I got a different brand bridgestone, they drove fine, but had to drive 50 miles to get them.

Just wondering how many miles your Michelin's lasted :B Your 2005 didn't come them right? IMO without being bias and naming names, you have about 5-6 different all season tires for your location which would all fit the bill. Might pay 20 bucks less and get a bit less mileage, or pay 50 bucks more and get sidewall cracking. Everyone has their favorite but in reality they are all DOT certified and have warranties. We have 6 sets of wheels and tires (winter and summer) for 3 vehicles and I really don't have a favorite or dog in the race as we usually date them out before mileage requires replacement. YMMV
