It would be no problem. As you pointed out, there is no tongue weight. I have been flat towing my Samurai for over eight years. I use a home fabricated 4.5 foot extension, and have chains from the end of the extension back to the hitch, as far outboard as I can get them. As stated, this provides lateral support. I use the factory hitch.
I also use cables for the safety chain requirement. I did not like chains. About two or three feet from the truck receiver, I welded an eye/hook to hold the Safety cable up off the road. It also serves as a guide for my tow light cable.
Tow brakes may or may not be required where you are at. I'm thinking it is required in most if not all of Canada. It would be something for you to look into. Should you not be aware, and need the information, a stock Samurai weighs 2100 pounds. I do not have tow brakes on my Samurai, but when (and if) I do, it will be a
ReadyBrake™ Supplemental Brake (about $400) with the ReadyStop Break Away Kit (about $100).
If you tow for over 150 to 200 miles at a time, you may want to look into a Twin stick or similar transfer case shifter (has true neutral) or a
Rear Drive Disconnect (about $450). There are about four different versions of the transfer case shifter (has true neutral) available, for about $150.
