Trailer Stolen with Man Inside!

This could have turned out really bad:

A Liberty County resident, Mr. James Brown , age 75 years old who lives in the CR 2279 area of South Liberty County had a rude awakening around 2:30am this morning when he awoke to someone hooking onto and pulling his 16’ camper trailer out of his driveway while he was still inside. Mr. Brown attempted to turn the inside trailer lights on but the suspect(s) had already disconnected the power to the trailer and were pulling out of the drive way. The owner immediately got on his cell phone and called “911” advising the Sheriff’s dispatcher of his dilemma and the direction of travel of a pick-up truck that was towing him and his trailer south on Hwy. 321 towards the City of Dayton at a high rate of speed.

While Mr. Brown and his trailer were being towed, he opened the trailer door and began firing several gun shots at the pick-up truck which then began weaving back and forth across the highway, apparently, in an attempt to throw Mr. Brown from his trailer.

I believe the TT owners nickname is James Blond...so yes, everything you mention is completely feasible.

:B Thanks for the great laugh I got out your post though 🙂
I was thinking Indiana Jones, but James bond is better. Turns out he was really Don Knotts aka Barney Fife

Oh yea - lets add kids sleeping over to the equation. TT owner successfully shoots and kills driver from the TT while being pulled down the highway at 60 mph. The vechiles wind up obliterated on the side of the road, and no occupants survive. Well at least justice was done...

I'd have waited till the thief arrived at his destination and opened up the trailer, then ventilate him.

Seems insane.. why tell or show the driver there was someone in the trailer. The theives took it thinking there wasn't anyone in it, just stay on 911...and hope they don't do a hi-speed chase and crash.

The driver wouldn't have started swerving if he hadn't opened the door... (who opens a door on a highway? It not like he can jump or crawl to the TV. not a train movie, lol)

If he was really clever he would have unlatched the door and just waited...with it flapping the driver would have eventually pulled over to close it (thinking it was loose or open the whole time), and then end up with a gun to the face.

...he had the element of surprise and blew it.

Bingo. I'm pro-gun, and I think the guy was a complete moron for shooting at the driver who is pulling the trailer he is in while at any rate of speed. I would have had no problem if he waited for the driver to stop, open the trailer door, then he shot him. Shooting the driver of the vehicle you are in or being towed in while driving is completely idiotic.

With the way my luck goes I would have been the one outside minding my own business and got shot by the stray and/or misdirected bullet.

I agree with the he should have just waited for law enforcement to pull the guy over. He had every right to shot at the SOB but I think that was a poor choice in his situation.

I'm an IDIOT for even getting into this thread, but put me in the column who thinks the guy was an idiot for shooting at the driver/thief.

If he hits someone else he will have a lot more trouble than having his trailer stolen. Call 911, keep the dispatcher up to date on his location and let the police deal with it.

Using his gun in this particular situation was not the best decision.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not anti-gun but, shooting at a moving vehicle while in a moving vehicle sounds dumb to me. You don't know where those bullets are going to land. Around here both men would be in a world of trouble. Thank God nobody got hurt.

Let's not make assumptions on the actual course of events. Newspaper reporters flat out suck (in general), and there's nothing in there that suggests they weren't just tooling around a small road at a very slow speed. As far as we know, they were either going down a back country road at idle speed, or they were going 70 MPH down the interstate. The way I see it, shoot the som-buck now cause you don't know what's waiting down the road. The next place you stop might be a gas station or a chopshop full of armed criminals...you don't know.

Okay - idiocy aside, I have questions about this. Have you ever ridden in a trailer while going 60 mph down the highway??? I haven't either.....but going 20 mph I have....and it's not all that steady. To hold the door, cell phone and shoot.........I question why he didn't FALL OUT!!!!! Next question --- why was the woman released?????? What happened to the "aiding and abetting" part of our laws?????? I was taught, as were my children, that if you're with a friend when they commit a crime, you're as guilty as the one doing the crime. hmmmmmm guess my kids believed me, because they're good honest citizens.

I tell you what's unbelievable: calling the owner of the trailer the idiot in the situation! But then he who made the comment is from Michigan. So I guess I'm not that surprised.
Really? I'm from Floria and I think he was an idiot too - still surprised?. I guess he was holding his cell phone as he was shooting as he dropped that. And shooting for what reason? to hit the driver? Lets say that he did - now what is the plan? Get on top of the TT and jump into the TV and take control??? Not sure what you think you can hit leaning out of a door being pulled down the road. His best bet would have been to stay put on keep in contact with the 911 operator.

I am not surprised by much anymore. However, I am surprised by anyone (no matter the state they reside in) calling the man in the trailer an idiot. It's just too bad he didn't have a front window in the trailer so he could have braced himself better and put a few rounds into the back of this scumbag's head.
