Travel Lite or Adventurer

Hey All,

I am looking at the Travel Lite and the Adventure models now becaue they are lighter dry than the Lance for example. I really wanted to remain the lightest as possible because much of my usage with be commuting to the city and some camping in my friend's driveway for a night or two a week. Will also use for camping but this is weekly usage and I want to keep my drive efficient as possible and not loaded down.

Thanks

Instead of the Travel Lite, why not consider a North Star TC, you will only read positive reviews for an outstanding TC and company that stands behind their product.

In response to the person who said "don't bad mouth all Travel Lites. Do your research".

I personally DID research them. Thoroughly. I really thought I had chosen a good company. But to have such catastrophic failures in 2 brand new TC's is unacceptable. And the customer service is non existent. I wish I'd seen the factory before I bought one LOL.

Oh, well Live and learn ๐Ÿ˜‰

Additionally, I called Travel Lite and was able to speak with the Service Dept. once. Then there was no answer. I tried for over 2 weeks to call again and I left 8 voicemails but never got a call back.

Again, some people have been happy. But ours has been a nightmare.

I love the interior and the layout. But the workmanship is truly subpar.

Update:

2016 - We are now dealing with galvanic corrosion on the entire driver's side of the 770R. Spent $1,000 having an RV place replace the entire driver's side lower aluminum siding. Found NO water leaks, just no barrier between the staples and the al. siding. In the course of 1 year there were holes eaten in the siding where every staple was located. This started in 2015 as small "bubbles". By the next year it was riddled with holes.

RV guy added a barrier to keep the 2 metals apart and resided it on the lower section of the driver's side. Thought we would be good.

2017 - same thing has happened again on the driver's side. It's been under cover the entire time, except for 1 week when we used it. Now has very small "bubbles" again. By next year it will need to be resided.

So now we are trying to figure out if it's got a bad ground somewhere that is accelerating the corrosion - through the vapor barrier that (should) have kept the 2 different metals from touching.

We have a 2011 Travellite 800 and really like it. No issues yet, nice options like euro style sink and stove. Quality materials and workmanship on "my" unit anyhow. We have an adventurer dealer close by and they are nice units as well. We were looking to buy one until we came across our camper and the price was right and exactly what we were looking for. But after reading the scathing reviews I'm a little nervous. I have resealed the roof using eternabond and lap sealant, also resealed all windows and hatches too, just in case. I've seen how much damage an unnoticed leak can do.

I own a 2012 Travel lite 875 PSBR I bought new. I have had no issues with this camper and it works very well for what We do. Do not bad mouth ALL Travel Lites because of Quality issues for a couple years. Do your research, but we like ours and its a good entry level camper.

I own a 2012 Travel Lite 960RX that I bought new and like it a lot. I did have some water intrusion from the seam where the roof meets the front cap last year but it was caught in time and repaired so the damage was minimal. Since then it has not leaked at all and has been a nice entry level camper for me and the wife. I guess I must be lucky as I've never had the problems that so many other Travel Lite owners have experienced. If I were to buy another truck camper in the near future I would consider buying an Adventurer or Northstar or maybe even a Wolf Creek as I've seen so many great reviews on those.

I have looked at several travel lite TCs and was not impressed.. owned a Adventurer 86fb and recommend Adventurer over Travel lite.

I'm in the "run away" camp. We bought a 2012 TL 890sbrx and returned it after a week. They used OSB plywood on the roof and moisture got in causing it to swell. The rubber roof tore along both sides and water was running down the walls. I never did get to camp in it.

We currently own a Northstar 8.5 Adventurer and absolutely love it, very well built.

Like stars101 says run as fast away from the Travel Lite as you can . but I own a 06 800 SBX and the only leak in mine was a leak on the front falon where one of the clearance lights is, Something everyone needs to check after a couple of years. I cought it before it got bad. I like mine but every time it rains I cross my fingers then go out and check it.

My wife and I have a 2011 Adventurer 80GS and really like it.

The camper is completely accessible even with the slide drawn in which makes 'stealth' camping a breeze. I did replace the 15 gal water tank with a 25 gal tank. It has small (6 gal) black and gray tanks but we have learned to live with that (we can dump to a 10 gal Barker tote that I can wheel to an outhouse if needed). Quality is about what you'd expect. We had a leak whenever we filled up the water tank which I found was from a screw point that pierced the fill tube - I replaced that when I replace the water tank. Also our camper came with a manual slide but it wouldn't seal tight at the top and let water in. The dealer put in an electric slide mechanism under warranty and everything seals up tight now.

It is a small camper but we don't feel cramped. My wife and I lived in it for two weeks straight on a road trip in 2012 and still like the camper (and each other). Dry weight is listed as 1485, wet weight is closer to 2200. We have it on a long box which the brochure (at the time) said would fit. It doesn't really (hits wheel fenders in box) and the new brochures now indicate that it only fits short box pickups. In order to make it work, we have the camper set back about 10 inches. The COG is still in front of the rear wheels and I use the (bonus!) space between the front of the box and the front of the camper to store camping equipment like the Barker tote.

We love our Adventurer.

You must however be wary of all weights that are posted. The weights differ with the different options that you add. Our 910FBS was close to the written weight but still a bit heavier.

We are very happy with our unit. The company is very supportive if you have a problem. This is our first TC so we have limited experience. I feel secure and comfy cozy in the coldest temps (mid 30's) that we've used it. It's warmer than the Salem 5er that we had and we have no condensation like we used to.
