We have a 2012 Avalanche. Every other one we have had we got leather seats. In this one we got fabric. We thought it would be nicer. When it is -30C or -22 F leather takes a long time to warm up even with heated seats.

Anyway, we started getting white spots on the seats. We couldn't figure out what it was from. We asked the dealer this last week after 2 years of it getting worse. He said that GM was having issues with this. It is water spots. My hubby always has a bottle of coke with him. He sits it between his legs while driving. As water drips from the cold container then dries it leaves white spots. It does not look nice on the seat.

We have tried to clean it but no luck. I feel that since GM are having an issue then this should be a warranty issue. What do you think? We go back up to the dealer this next week and I will present the question.

I am not going to push the fact with them, however they brought the whole topic up to begin with, the technician said we should talk to service, then we asked the service mgr. Now that we know what is causing it we are obviously are not making it worse. It just seems that if GM knew there was a problem with the fabric, knew what caused it, then why have they not informed customers? I guess you don't know us but we certainly would never intentionally cause damage and expect someone else to correct or pay for it. If we knew it would happen then we would have not done it but there was no information saying, please use the cup holders because any water caused by sweating on the cup or bottle will cause damage.
This has never happened with any other cloth seat we have had in a vehicle and hubby has always held his pop like a lot of guys do. Let's be honest here, how many people would expect this to happen and say to themselves, don't let the water from a sweating bottle or cup hit that cloth seat or it will stain. How many of us actually have set their pop bottle or cup on the seat?

So, let me get this straight.... you (or your husband) is causing a problem and you know you're causing a problem and you want a warranty to cover it?

Let me guess, you're an attorney?

Really, I don't mean to be a dick but come on.... this is a bit over the top IMO.

Old biscuit.... I agree that he should use the cup holders.

Mark......wipes do not work.

The dealer said it was just this one type of fabric used. They are the ones that said it is water stains. We were going to blame one of the other guys for glue and dust stains on his clothes. Apparently, a lot of people hold their pop like that. They said that they have tried to clean some seats and it won't come out. A water stain is easy to get on lots of things but hard to remove.

Hope your hubby don't have Coke bottles. Oh wait I guess they are all plastic now days :W
Way back in the 70's I had a good friend who always had a Coke bottle between his legs while driving. He got into a accident, pretty violent, but it shattered the bottle. He survived but..... it wasn't what a guy would hope for :E
Hey maybe that is why they now have cup holders 🙂

Cloth is always cheaper than leather for a reason. They always looked beat after 3 years or so, leather just ages like a fine wine if you take care of em.

Anyway good luck with the dealer but your odds are pretty low IMO.

And it's your husbands fault for having the bottle between his legs.
