What’s Your Favorite Truck?

I am currently without a truck and without a RV. High Schoolers life, I got a Senior and a Freshmen in school. No time or $$ to camp. One in Band and one in football. Best years of my life, but its really busy right now and I feel like there is a straw stuck in my wallet. We have something going on nearly every weekend.... etc etc etc

Anyway, I am on the hunt for a cheap beater truck to keep around the house, I’m considering basically everything half ton and up. Nothing newer, those are too expensive right now.

Looking at all these beaters got me thinking about some of the trucks I have had in the past and kind of take a stroll down memory lane.

I’ve owned a lot of trucks from small Rangers to my big 99 Superduty V10 XL CC DRW.

My newest truck was my 08 F150 SCREW XLT but it was not my favorite. It could have been but I bought the 4.6 V8 which meant I got the puny 8.8 rear axle. I couldn’t get over that mental block so I got rid of it. The truck was actually a good truck despite my perception..

I only hated one of them and that was the Superduty. I can’t explain it, I just hated it.

My favorite trucks I’ve owned over the years are

1997- Ram 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4x4 with the 5.2L V8
1997- F150 Supercab XLT 2x4 with the 5.4 V8 (towed my TT with this truck)
1993- Ford Ranger regular cab 2x4 XLT with a 4banger 5 speed.
1978- Ford F-250 with a big block V8, 4x4, and rattle can primer.

My Ranger was fun to drive, My Ram was also enjoyable. The F250 was great. Oversized tires and all, you could practically measure the MPG with a tape measure. Ha ha ha.

But my Favorite, and it’s not even close, was my 97 F150. That truck was nimble, Powerful, stable, comfortable, and a great all around performer. It did a great job pulling my TT, I really miss this truck.

My FIL Has a 94 Silverado 2wd extended cab he would like to sell me, I’ve not actually owned a GM truck, so I may buy it... it needs some work, (cracked fly wheel) but hey I like a project.

Now, I have not owned an OBS Ford so maybe my beater will be a 80-96 Ford OBS. I’ve never owned a diesel either so maybe I’ll go for an IDI beater. Who knows, maybe I’ll find my next favorite truck.

Anyway, What was your favorite truck out of all the vehicles you have owned. And if you don’t care to share, what was it about that or those trucks that made you fond of them.

Thanks!

I have had:
Isuzu pickup auto with the 2.6
Chevy S10 with the 4.3 and 5 speed
Chevy 1500 with 5.3
Chevy 1500HD 6.0
GMC 2500 HD ( current ) with the 6.0
1969 C10 ( current) 350 with 3 speed
Favorite trucks in order:
1969 C10
2009 GMC 2500 HD.

Really love both of these trucks, the 69 is just to cool, I keep it old school and stock as much as possible. Being simple to work on and it’s a few years older then I am. I also love th 09 with the LS 6.0 engine, best HD truck that I could ask for. Both I plan to keep for a long time, had several offers on the 69 but those keys won’t leave my hands at all. Anyway I’m blessed to own both!
A truck, a camper, a few toys, but most importantly a wonderful family.

Dodge 2500 regular cab 2wd 360v8 nv4500. About as simple and basic as you could get. Easy to work on, comfortable seats, good truck. It didn’t pull as well as my 7.3 does, but it got me where I was going.

I like my current RAM for towing, but I think my favorite is my 2006 Chevy Duramax LBZ Crew Cab - the truck runs great, rides well and can handle just about any task, including towing up to 12K.

Favorite hands down was the 1980 GMC High Sierra 3/4 ton 2wd with a 350v8 and auto trans. Sounded great, nice chrome wheels, just a great looking truck. Probably still my favorite overall body style of any truck ever, smiled every time I drove it.

My favorite - The 1967 Chevy C10 with shell. Straight six, three on the tree, and a manual choke. It had been my grandad's truck and I got it after he passed. For a while it was more reliable than the 1983 Rabbit GTi I had at the time.

Least favorite - 1983 F-250 5.0L gasser my father owned. The carb/smog combo made it prone to stalling mid-intersection. My ex-brother-in-law was furious I sold it when it was time for dad to change trucks in 2007. I didn't feel it was safe for any family members, and I knew my BIL was lax in vehicle maintenance.

Highly appreciated - Dad's 2007 Toyota Tacoma base truck plus auto trans and air conditioning. Could not believe the value of that truck at roughly $15.5K out the door (while dressed up 4x4 CC Tacos went for $42K). My BIL got even with me as they got that truck when my father passed, and then kept it for less than a year.

I'm still very impressed with my Expedition coming up on 5 years of ownership. Quiet and comfortable, just a little short of oomph for towing in tough situations. Determined to keep it for at least one more season.

Best regards,
Chris

Looks nice, I always liked 50's style trucks. I had a 55 Dodge pickup. Dad took the old engine out and put in a 50's hemi.

I'm with the people who said that the memories were their favorite part of the trucks that they've owned. My first was a 1973 F100 full sized Ranger with a 360 that I bought in 1974. Trucks weren't considered cool then but I dated my wife in that truck and still owned it when we got married in 1975. I traded it in for a new 1979 F100 with a 302. We camped a lot with that truck. We camped in a topper, tent and then later on a slide in.

I bought a new F250 in 1988 and my family did a lot of camping with that truck. We took it all the way to the west coast in 1989.

I bought a new B2500 Mazda in 1998 and used it mostly for transportation.

I bought a new Chevy 1500 in 2003 and used it mainly for transportation and hauling firewood. Didn't put many miles on that one before I parked it due to many many problems.

I bought a 2011 Super Duty a couple years ago and still have it.

Any that have kept for decades are fav's...

Don't have pic's of my 1970 Toyota FJ40 anymore (divorce had her destroy most of my negatives)

1973 Chevy K5 Blazer replaced that FJ40 and kept it till it rusted out from trips to Boise Idaho

My two favorite trucks are ones I didn't own myself. One was a 78 GMC Stepside that my high school boyfriend and his dad put a 454 in. That thing was fun 🙂

The other was my dad's 1996 F150 work truck. Base model, zero bells and whistles, 6 cylinder. But lots of good memories with him in that truck. He passed away in 2000 when I was fresh out of high school so those memories were some of the last I had with him. I drove it around some after that, but my mom ended up selling it since I needed a more commute/college friendly vehicle (that's when we sold my 84 SVO Mustang too, boo).

Favorite....hard to say
Had probably close to 20 trucks since I started driving and all except one did what I wanted from them at the time

Least favorite...that's easy
