Where are all the folding trailer Fans?

Through the years I've had tent trailers, truck campers and travel trailers. As you can see from my profile I've been a forum member since 2003.

When I started on RV.net this Folding Trailer section was very active. Perhaps never as busy as Travel Trailers or Class A's but still pretty busy. Now that I am visiting RV.net again I am noticing this forum is extremely quiet. What happened? Is there another forum that's now more popular for Folding Trailer owners?

Pop Tops and Folding Campers are still very popular in Australia, especially with young families

I'm new here! I bought my first pop-up just over a month ago. I googled "rv forum" and this was the first one that came up (naturally, lol). From what I've seen this is one of the less popular forum sites. By darn it, I'm sticking with my choice and I'm going to use this site! 😉

Congratulations!!!
Feel free to ask! 🙂

I used to be a regular as well, but took time away from the forum. When I came back it seemed very quiet. I even had to watch for tumbleweeds blowing through from time to time. Anyway, I posted something about my PUP and had the post removed as a spam message. Obviously it wasn't, so it left a bad taste in my mouth. With the lack of others in this forum and a bad experience, I figured my time away was probably time better spent.

That all being said, I've use the Truck Camper forum here since I'm getting a new truck camper. I don't think I'll become a very active member, as I was in the PUP forum though. Just has a different vibe around here than it did in the past.

I'm a returnee to the Truck Camper forum myself since I just got one again. Now have the TC and my trailer. The TC is for shorter local trips. If we'll be gone a while then we will pull the trailer.

That said if I had the money and space I'd probably buy another tent camper too. I love the openness and the sense of being out of doors that they afford.

I did chaperone on my daughter's girls youth campout with our church this summer. We used tents. Also, went with both my kids (each brought a friend) on an overnight tent campout with some other families. The husband stayed home. He doesn't like to tent camp anymore. Don't like to tent camp in the rain, but it did rain that night.

I also read every post on the folding trailer forum. I used to sign into RV.NET every day and read this forum along with Around the Campfire, General RVing, and Beginning RVing. I'd frequently look at other sections too. Since there aren't many posts here anymore, and I've read the questions and answers from the other sections so often, I sometimes go a couple months without logging in. Many of the people I used to know are gone or don't post anymore. There's few who are still frequent posters.

My husband used to participate in the forum especially when we first bought our PUP 12 years ago. He's only logged on 2-3 times in the last several years when he had a specific issue he needed help with.

Mike was the moderator back then, and we learned a lot from him.

Our kids are busy with school and sports. We normally just go camping for 4-5 days over Memorial Day weekend, and one full week in August.

We still have our 2004 Fleetwood Utah we bought new. It's still a good shape. Love cooking and eating outdoors (with a fire when allowed) and having the windows unzipped to enjoy nature if it's raining, and we are keeping dry playing games or reading inside.

While I'm not new to camping or travel trailers, I am new to pop ups due to my recent purchase of one, our mobile beach shack. I was always intrigued by them, they really do serve a niche user like us. We have a 36' TT and love it, but the TV is a little long in the tooth for long distances, and I'm not into driving hours with the big trailer anymore, so we use it for local camping. The pop up we can take anywhere. Our new & newer TV's are small jeeps, so the pop up works fine with those TV's.

I just used the pop up this past weekend, there were three other pop ups, two TT, the rest tents & cabins.

I generally just post responses to questions but I read everything in the sub-forum. I have mostly run out of questions at this point but certainly don't mind helping out where I can.

I see about at least 15% of RVs in the areas that I camp are PUPs. It's just about 1 out of 5 are PUPs.

There stopped being cool new ideas and we all got used to a tired of the same old discussions. New ideas these days seem like solutions looking for problems.

My biggest issues now are finding times the whole family is actually available to go camping!

Even though I no longer have a pop-up, I check this sub forum everyday.

I like to read posts about pop-ups, I have a great respect for the Pop-up's RV's

My first RV was a 2008 10f pop-up, and thanks to that pop-up I learned A LOT about the RV world.

That pop-up helped me understand what type of camping/traveling I like to do, and what NOT to get when I moved on to a bigger unit.

Before I had my pop-up, I was so locked on getting a HTT.
At that time I couldn't' afford HTT (new or used), so I got a USED pop-up instead, as with 2 small kids anything was better then tenting.

After 2 summers, and a few really bad rainy days, and one sever storm at the campground, I got tired from canvas/vinyl all together, and slowly ditched the HHT idea.

My old pop-up also helped me understand the importance of a floor plan, as my old pop-up had an amazing floor plan (rockwood 1910) that really worked for me.

Today I am very happy with my new small TT, but I couldn't got the right TT, were it not having my old pop-up first.

Since I have my TT, when camping with friends that come with pop-up, I ALWAYS help them setting/tear down the pop-up first, before I do my TT.

We're still here, I just don't post much in this area because I don't usually have much that is Pup specific. I do usually post more on a Pup-specific forum I frequent.

With the increase in size, amenities and cost of PUP's I think there are not as many people going that route as before. When I started out a PUP was pretty cheap. Now you can get a hard side travel trailer for similar cost.
