Where to rent a truck camper?

There are precious few places where you can rent a truck camper.

Seems like a logistical nightmare to me; I'm surprised anyone does it at all, but those that take on the challenge deserve to have business sent their way.

It would be nice to have a list of these places for people who want to try before they buy. Can we do that here without getting into trouble with advertising rules?

Our first truck camper experience was through a fellow on Vancouver Island who rented campers. Not new ones, well used they were, and the prices were very fair. We drove from Vancouver Island to Inuvik with that truck camper on our F-250 PSD, and back. It was a great trip. I think we paid about $1,000 for three weeks. Not so bad. He didn't advertise, just word of mouth.

Here we were on the Campbell Highway in Yukon with it

Doesn't make sense to rent just the campers IMO. I wouldn't think there is much market for people with their trucks set up to haul the camper that do not just own one.

In May of 2014, at Calgary, my wife and I rented a Northern Lite Sportsman on a brand new Ford 350 diesel.

The fellow who helped us get on the road went out of his way for us, patiently answering all our questions. He was on his way home for the day when he saw us returning to the office with yet another question. He intercepted us and got us on our way, finally feeling sufficiently confident.

By renting before the high season, we secured a much lower rental rate. The whole experience was quite positive for us.

They seem to be able to buy a stripped down Northern Lite and Bigfoot.

Alaska has a few TC rental sites. At least they did a few years ago when I drove my TC up there.

I no longer own the truck and TC in my signature.

Yup, quite common in Canada. Fraserway has a fleet of them and then sells them off a year or two later and builds the fleet back up. They turn the trucks over as well. You cannot however just rent the camper, you must take the truck as well. Canadream is another. In the USA, good luck finding one.

The last time I checked (April 2015) truck campers were only being rented in Canada (not in the USA).

If someone wants to do the whole research thing today to see if this is still the case, then great.

There was a place in Monterey California that rented truck campers - called Silver Ash Campers. I've seen some kind of post recently that indicated that their lot was empty - I don't know if that's a seasonal thing or if they've gone out of business.

I just did a Google Search "Truck camper rental" and got several "hits" once you get past the "Go Rving" and U-haul rental sites.
