VIDEO  Build A Rear Seat Storage Cargo Or Bed Platform For Your Truck Camper

Every road trip we take, we end up stuffing a bunch of tools and supplies in the back seat area of our Ford F-250 Super Cab, creating an inaccessible mess. This year, I'm creating and installing a platform about 15 inches high, 64 inches wide, and 27 inches deep in the back seat area of the truck cab. This setup could also be used as a bed space in the back seat area of your truck. The idea is to create lots more usable space for tools and tuck supplies on level one. Then create usable space for the cats. There will be a dedicated space for the litter box, making it much easier to clean and fill when needed. The other side will be a feeding station, and storage for cat food and cat supplies. The top level will be for cat carriers, giving each cat, Archie and Poppie, their own space to hang. I

need to do some insulating on the back lower panel of the cab to help keep the inside warmer in those frozen climates and also help the AC us keep cooler in high heat. All in all, this should be a big improvement. This travel season should be our best yet with better preparation and all the improvements made to the engine. I predict a lot of good times and enjoying our FREEDOM this season. You're welcome to join in and come along for the ride.

Is that a cord and a hose sticking out of the grille/headlight area?

Blockheater in Seattle or battery maintainer?

Air hose and drop light. I was blowing out dirt, and cleaning engine compartment. This was just after completing all engine work, and finishing new front springs and exhaust y-pipe install. I like the new and level ride height. I can adjust levelness of ride with Rear Firestone Air Bags.

I thought of doing somthing like this a few times, but for me it isn't practical and the dog rides back there and the floor lets him jump up to that then onto the seat.  I did build an extension for the middle area so he can lay there if we have the grandkids with us in their car seats.  other wise like you mentions we have the tone of stuff on the floor.  axes, dogs outside cushion, colapsable wagon I use to get firewood, and so on haha..

Yes, everyone has a specific need in their truck and camper.  No dogs, No kids, But a lot of tools and supplies. I've helped quite a few people on the road.

yup, if I didn't have the grandkids and dog, or at least had a smaller dog, I would do the same thing.  heck I could probably do it with the dog.

Thanks for sharing this. I've considered doing something similar ever since we went from crew to super cab. Just haven't found the time yet, and not sure where we store the seats. Did you re-locate the jack and tire tool kit? Did you consider drawers or a slide-out shelf?

I would suggest you employ eye and ear protection with these power tool demos.

I've had 40 years construction experience. A couple seconds of noise won't hurt, and for dust I hold my breath, sort of, and for eyes, I squint. Yess! all poor excuses. I don't use the crappy little embarrassment FROD calls a jack. I bring a 5 ton bottle jack, but this year, I'm looking to replace that with an Aluminum Floor Jack I can slide under the platform. I'm going out to try and finish this project today, hopefully there will be no rain.

that jack you don't use actualy works pretty good, lifted my truck and camper no problem, I was a little concerned when I got a flat a couple years ago haha.

Cool, I'm interested in seeing your completed platform and cat litterbox area!  We travel with a small dog (Westie) and our cat.  I put the litterbox on the floor behind the passenger seat so the cat has access, but the dog can't get to it as he is secured to the seat headrest with short leash type connector and a body harness.

I'm going to head out and work on it soon barring any more rain. Hopefully I'll have something to show you tonight.
