At 9 pm, I don't think it makes any difference. If you're worried about going through Jacksonville, take 295 east around it. Camp on!

I took I95 when we were headed to Orlando- drove through around 3pm, if I recall correctly. I have to say, after years of driving in NJ, Baltimore and DC - that was the most intense "international speedway" driving that I have experienced in a LONG time. Those folks were CRAZY.

Yeah, I always seem to hit Jax around rush hour. Have yet to get thru there without being delayed by an accident or two.

That's the crazy thing- things were moving and FAST. I was doing just under 65mph (it kept creeping up on me) and ended up having to slow down to 55 or so to feel like I was in control.

Yeah, I always seem to hit Jax around rush hour. Have yet to get thru there without being delayed by an accident or two. The highlight this year was seeing a guy making a complete ass out of himself. He had rearended a lady and her child, and he was standing beside the road screaming into his cellphone, kicking his car, flailing his arms, and generally being a real jerk. The lady was huddled with her child away from him, apparently concerned by his behavior.

I95 will not be busy that time of night but is not that great of road. If you were to break down on I95 from Dunn Ave to the Fuller Warren bridge you may not survive. If you are continuing south take the I295 east beltway.

We always go straight thru. It is a pretty easy drive.

If it's off peak I always use 95.... No issues to this point. I would consider 9pm a safe time in MY book... But ask my wife , I have been known to be wrong! ๐Ÿ™‚

Actually the bridge I was talking about is on 295(east), used to be called 9A.

A few years ago, I was watching the news and they were doing a story about Jacksonville. It was January and Jacksonville had some snow accumulation - an inch or less. Road crews were spreading sand on the uphill approaches to the bridges. By hand with shovels.
Then it hit me. They really don't need to keep a salt barn. Snow problems probably happen less than once every 10 years. And they have lots of sand.

I take the easterly route toward the beach (if you don't mind going over the tall bridge). When I start getting close I'd call 511 and check the traffic conditions, just in case there are any incidents that back up traffic, you can always choose one of the other 2.
